The Young Hindu Students are asking for your support on their protest petition against a derogative textbook used for teaching Hinduism in college campuses.

Shri Krishna is calling us to protect the dharma.
Uttishta Arjuna and Protect the Dharma.

Please go to following website, read petition and sign the petition:

http://www.petitiononline.com/HSCULL/petition.html

You must include your name and the Email address.
You may also put name of your State and country, otherwise keep blank.
You may write "Comment", otherwise keep blank. PLEASE TRY TO WRITE SOMETHING IN COMMENT.

Below are some suggested comments that you can use as a guide to write your own comments:
1. Hate speech is not protected by the freedom of speech in constitution.
2. In the State of Georgia, a univesity professor making a racist remark in class would face severe trouble. Someone who makes anti-semitic statements would be in serious danger of being fired. Certainly today, someone who made an anti-Islam statement would be hammered. Why hateful books on Hinduism are accepted?
3. Hate speech is NOT accorded protection, especially on university campuses.
4. The book hurts the Hindu feeling in the same way a Christian will feel about derogative malicious comentry about Virgin Marry giving birth to Jesus.
5. The book hurts the Hindu feeling in the same way a Christian will feel if some one compares "Simbolic drinking of Jesus blood and eating his flesh in sermons" as Canibalism. (Canibalism means human eating human meat).
6. This book is candidate of a court action for criminal offence.

PLEASE DO IT NOW. And FORWARD this Email to friends of all faiths.

Teaching Hinduism in US Schools

http://www.mssc.edu/projectsouthasia/tsa/VIN1/RosserPFV.htm

U.S.A., 2001: "Stereotypes about India and Hinduism when taught as fact in American classrooms may negatively impact students of South Asian origin who are struggling to work out their identity in a multicultural, predominately Anglo-Christian environment," begins this very long article by Yvette C. Rosser. The author explores the reactions of Hindu students who have studied about India in social
studies classes in American secondary schools. Datawas taken from surveys distributed at the University of Texas at Austin to students of South Asian descent who attended high school in the USA, as well as from personal interviews with several American-educated students of Indian heritage. The author also discusses the coverage of India in world history textbooks and analyses the preparedness of secondary social studies educators to teach about India and other non-Western regions. The full text of the article is at "source" above.

Motilal Banarsidas Withdraws Ganesha Book
Press Reports

DELHI, INDIA, November 5, 2003: Famed publisher Motilal Banarsidass has decided not to reprint Paul Courtwright's controversial book on Lord Ganesha. Publisher Rajeev Jain wrote the following e-mail to Dr. Rao, who brought the book to his attention. "Firstly, I am obliged that you have gone through the book and made us aware about the extremely objectionable passages including the cover of the book. In fact, the book was published in 1985 by Oxford University Press and we never heard any adverse comments, hence without getting that reviewed we undertook the publication since it was originally published by an internationally established publisher. We did not care to go through the book thinking that this would be academically well acceptable. We are extremely sorry that the content of the book has hurt the sentiments of our beloved readers and the community at large. We offer our sincerest apologies to all our readers. We have already withdrawn the circulation of the book from the market and discontinued the sale. Further, we ensure that no such lapse shall ever occur in future. This need not be reiterated that MLBD has ever published any such offensive matter knowingly in the entire history of their publication for the last 100 years. Being one of the best-known publishers devoted to Hinduism and ancient Indian culture we would never think to tarnish the image of any religion. This has been an omission on our part and we are really apologetic to the readers for its publication. May we request you to kindly circulate our letter of apology to various religious organizations, centres, and the Hindu community at large."
