Social Drinking Anyone?

Perhaps this thread has already been started.

What are your thoughts on social drinking? I left a church once because one of the new deacons mentioned in class this social drinking was okay.

My opinion is this: drinking is wrong. It does not lead to anything productive. It is not a required consumption of your body. And most importantly, it does not improve your relationship with Christ.

I agree with you that it's wrong, but your logic could describe anything from football to music to shopping to the internet and a thousand things in between.

Count me out.

I would think a long time before giving "my" permission to drink any form of intoxicants. However, as usual, it is really a test of faith to try to look to what the Bible has already revealed. Next, it is important to see how others "Pre-Me" understood Scripture. As most of history will not agree on many "brother-approved" views, it comes down squarely against wine drinking.

Pliny makes common sense come alive when you recognize that--as someone has claimed--there are 10,000 types of stuff on the skin of a grape; and dozens of processes for making a wine which doesn't degenerate into a poison. He has a history of different types of wines, their medicinal uses and other compounds often dosed in wine as a solvent.

He would inform those who hear Paul say TAKE a little wine for THY STOMACH and TRANSLATE it to mean "Drink lots of wine for thy social success." About two beers will get you defined as drunk by the police if you drive. It is very difficult to get "a little intoxicated" because the JUDGMENT scale slides with the consumption. I remember a preacher in Murfreesboro who advised people not to get drunk on SATURDAY so they would not minimize their RITUALS to make it all better on Sunday.

Paul did not say "stop drinking water" but "not ONLY water." Pliny mentions various kinds of sweet wines which are for the STOMACH because you don't need to be too bright not to dose yourself with intoxicants. Pliny mentions wines which would BURN. This must have been distilled or frozen to remove the water.

Paul's prescription would be to put wine cider or grape syrup into the water.

I have reviewed two "preacher" types. Rubel Shelly castigates the ANTI-instrumental churches of Christ for our stance against wine [don't know who he surveyed] 10 times in a short speech at ACU at a "Unity Forum." I am quite sure that Shelly etal must be correct that NOT playing instruments makes changes in your DNA.

And Fred Peatross from the Grace-Centered stables.

I can never work up enough energy to advise people about anything. However, as a Bible-based forum it might be helpful to research the issue before you listen to any sermons about our social practices.

Glad You have it right

March 8 2005, 12:41 AM

Just picked this one to respond. I am glad you seem to be the measuring stick for every "issue" out there. I am glad that God made you the one to measure all other C of C people by. My question is...who do we measure when you pass away?

I know you don't have an e-mail to respond to, but didn't need a response, just know I am praying for Piney.com.

Scripture has it right: clergy has it wrong by definition

March 8 2005, 10:04 AM

Now, you will have to pray for piney-2.com

Seems people world-wide want to know the Truth by someone who PAYS and does not charge. Now, about ME.

In Yester-Space when I went to the out house to read, someone would often ask:

"How much do you weight?"

I would dutifly respond: Why?

Oh, If you fell in I just wanted to know how much to dip out.

Did I ALSO tell you that Jesus CAST OUT the musical minstrels LIKE DUNG?

I have suggested that they grind me up and put me under the rose bushes.

I began TEACHING on this forum when it began by friends: so far they have not Viperized me. Therefore, like your unlawful preacher, when a question comes up I respond by invitation and tolerance but NOT for a wage. Because the HATE stuff is almost always to PROMOTE anti-Christianism I just naturally feel obligated and commanded by the Spirit WHO IS Jesus Christ to REBUKE the false "spirits" which seem about 200 proof--"drunk on arrogance."

...........................THE BOOK

What Happened At the Madison Church of Christ?

There are thousands of churches being taken over across America.

This book is only about one of those churches. It's about the Madison Church Of Christ. By studying the methods used here along with the resource references you might be able to inoculate your church. At the very least you will recognize the signs early on.

Many of the current members of the Madison Church of Christ still don't know what happened.
Some never will know! This book is for them as well.

Madison Church of Christ was a 60 year old church. At one time it was one of the largest churches in the US, and the largest Church of Christ.

It thrived for many years on the vision of it's elders and those of it's ministers. Those visions undoubtably came from the the inspired word of Jesus Christ.

At sometime in the last 10 years there was a deliberate plan by a majority of the elders to take the Madison Church of Christ into a more worldly realm.

They used secrecy, covert planning, and outside sources to scheme and to change the format and direction of the Madison Church of Christ.

The Elders knew that the membership would never approve such a plan. Using the tools of the "Community Church Movement"(consultants, books, seminars, meetings, planters, seeders) they slowly started initiating change so it was never noticed by the members until it was too late.....

At the heart of the plan was the fact that old members were going to be driven off so new techniques could be used to go out and reach the unchurched through new "Contemporary Holy Entertainment" methods developed by the "Community Church Movement"

Old members had to be kept on board long enough to get their plans ready, or the funds would not be there to pay for the new building. So by the plans very nature, it had to be secret.

The church had no plan in effect to renew or approve elders. There was never any need. The elders had always been "as approved by God". 10 of the last 15 elders would begin to shed some doubt on that.

The Elders did not even need a majority at first, because some of the elders went along unwittingly.

This edition starts shortly after some of the members begin to smell something strange in January 2001. Later editions may go back and fill in some of the timeline.

To even start to understand whats happening here, you must read the background materials in the first of the book.

This is only the first edition, and not the end. New editions will be printed as needed. To keep abreast of current changes, please visit our web site; http://www.concernedmembers.com/madison

Here is the list of players;

5 Godly Elders
10 Not so Godly Elders
120 "Deacons" (allegiance unknown)
2,800 - 4,000 church "members"
2 "teners" (people who have publicly confessed to have broken all ten commandments)
Unknown number of "sinners" (This is what the 10 elders call us.)
Unknown number of "demons" (Flying everywhere, to many to count)
