Richland Hills. Instrumental music: A Plea to Reconsider by Dave Miller

While this is a "traditionalists" rebuttal of Rick Atchley's totally false teaching, it abandons the high ground. At the same time it may explain why the usual "proof text" have never worked among those wishing that "school of the Bible" be all "recess."

The error is in AGREEING with Rick Atchley and his NACC friends who make the false claim that:

God commanded and approved worship with musical instruments as an ACT.

Then the task of theology and not speaking where the Bible speaks is to PROVE that God ceased enjoying the burning of flesh and instrumental NOISE never called music.

Because, they say, Jesus did not COMMAND the ACT of instrumental worship, we cannot do so. This embraces the Law of silence which only the instrumentalists have ever used with effect.

This review will prove to any reader that God DID NOT command instrumental music. Rather, it was BECAUSE of musical idolatry that God IMPOSED rather than commanded the Monarchy and the Sacrificial system.

This is amazing. There are people dying all over the world without knowing Jesus Christ and we are arguing about instruments in church.

Richland Hills is aligning with the Christian Church--period!

That “there are people dying all over the world without knowing Jesus” is true. Indeed! So, it is YOUR duty, as well as mine, that we preach and teach God’s plan of redemption.

The use of musical machines in the assembly being an issue in the religious world is also true. It is brought up and is being discussed here and on other boards. Since this is a discussion board, religious issues will continue to be addressed.

If you think that what’s going on at Richland Hills regarding the use of the inanimate and lifeless musical machines in the assembly of the living saints has no adverse effect upon the brotherhood, think again.

Great Reply Donnie?

If any kind of meaningful conversation is to be done addressing religious issues then it needs to be done effectively and not just with your opinion. Please base your arguments on something besides your own experiences. Just because your a moderator on this board does not give you a right to do as you wish. If you continue to just give your opinions of how worship should occur this board will remain very effective in convincing no one but only to serve as means to get Ken's long winded, self-promoting posts.

Personnally, I think that I would rather see a Church using a "lifeless" instrument and have Christians attending who are alive spiritually, than see a church that does not use a "lifeless" instrument and is full of dead and "lifeless christians". I also thing that God would prefer a group of spiritually alive Christians who might miss it on one issue (debatable) than the other group who make sure that they cross all their T's and dot all their I's. Remember the Pharasees, they made sure that they had everything "right," yet forgot to actually serve God while doing it.

I attended The Word of Faith church that had a complete Rock band in it service. People were still lifeless! That's one reason I did not go back, most people had a better relationship with their instrument that they had with each other. Don't get me wrong it sounded great, but somehow rang shallow. The congregation was large 2500+ and seemed to come just for a sermon and show. No friendship no fellowship, just membership. I do not think I would equate musical instruments as a spiritual device. Most musicians I know, are in a band just to get the girl.

Because of the New Testament Church syndrome we have grown up with no "know" and no "need to know" the story line of the Old Testament. From Genesis to Revelation there are TWO THREADS, TWO SONS, TWO TRIBES and two views of God. From the sin of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai until people turn or convert or are baptized into Christ (2 Cor 3) people were blinded and unable to read black text on white paper. God ABANDONED the people led by the "mixed multitude" which came out of Egypt to RETURN to the worship of the Starry Host instead of the GOD of the host. There is NOTHING in that system which was ever approved but was IMPOSED as the NATIONAL system. The Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness were for the FAITHFUL Israelites. The command was to assembly on the REST day to read and rehearse the Word. The synagogue existed for the FAITHFUL virtually without change as a school of the Word.

Galatians 3 puts us BACK under the Abrahamic Covenant and the CURSE of the LAW to keep the VIPERS off the backs of people SHOULD NOT be needed.

The MIXED MULTITUDE were probably Edomites and thus not able to be baptized as a RACE OF VIPERS. Peter commanded that we save OURSELVES from that CROOKED generation. That word specificially identifies the pagan use of MUSIC to deceive people to fleece them. Thus, Nehemiah and most prophets led by the Spirit OF Christ identified that RACE as robbers and PARASITES (a synonym for a religious musician.)

It is never too late to quit paying for sermonizing the Word and become DISCIPLES which, like Electricians, come to their apprentice one at a time. Here is a short summary which I have posted in a Review of Terry Rush's mishandling of facts.>

Sorry if some of these images get too big.

Read the scriptures

June 30 2010, 2:17 AM

2 Timothy 3:16 (King James Version)

16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Psalm 150
1Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

2Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

4Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

5Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

6Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Dave Miller: approves Atchley that God COMMANDED instrumental music

August 3 2010, 12:14 PM

As long as those who call themselves "conservative" but who are wildly liberal preach that God's OLD PATTERNISM approved instrumental music in congregational worship they simply HAVE NOTHING OF VALUE TO SAY. I fact, they give aid and comfort to the musical idolaters. Is this accidential?

DAVE MILLER: The first two reasons assert that under the Old Testament, God did not just allow instrumental music, He commanded and blessed it. Rick offered the following passages for these contentions: 2 Chronicles 5:13-14; 7:6; 1 Chronicle 29:25-26; Psalm 33:1- 3; Psalm 150:1-6.

Dave Miller: Response: Rick is absolutely correct in these assertions. It is true that some among the anti-instrument viewpoint (as Rick styles it) have claimed that God never approved, but only tolerated, the instrument in Old Testament worship. Rick ridiculed this viewpoint with the rhetorical question: [I]s that standing under the word of God or over the word of God? The fact is the majority of those within churches of Christ have long acknowledged the divinely approved use of instruments in Old Testament Jewish worship. But this realization is completely beside the point and side-steps the issue. Why?

Dave Miller: Likewise, the Old Testament firmly asserts that God was pleased with animal sacrifices and other offerings: Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering; then they shall offer bullson Your altar (Psalm 51:19, emp. added).

Here is a second part of our review of Dave Miller reviewing Rick Atchley and in truth giving him aid and comfort UNLESS you can find a LAW stopping what all false teachers claim God commanded.

It appears that there is no institute prepared to teach prospective preachers the story line in the fall from grace BECAUSE of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.

...........................THE BOOK

What Happened At the Madison Church of Christ?

There are thousands of churches being taken over across America.

This book is only about one of those churches. It's about the Madison Church Of Christ. By studying the methods used here along with the resource references you might be able to inoculate your church. At the very least you will recognize the signs early on.

Many of the current members of the Madison Church of Christ still don't know what happened.
Some never will know! This book is for them as well.

Madison Church of Christ was a 60 year old church. At one time it was one of the largest churches in the US, and the largest Church of Christ.

It thrived for many years on the vision of it's elders and those of it's ministers. Those visions undoubtably came from the the inspired word of Jesus Christ.

At sometime in the last 10 years there was a deliberate plan by a majority of the elders to take the Madison Church of Christ into a more worldly realm.

They used secrecy, covert planning, and outside sources to scheme and to change the format and direction of the Madison Church of Christ.

The Elders knew that the membership would never approve such a plan. Using the tools of the "Community Church Movement"(consultants, books, seminars, meetings, planters, seeders) they slowly started initiating change so it was never noticed by the members until it was too late.....

At the heart of the plan was the fact that old members were going to be driven off so new techniques could be used to go out and reach the unchurched through new "Contemporary Holy Entertainment" methods developed by the "Community Church Movement"

Old members had to be kept on board long enough to get their plans ready, or the funds would not be there to pay for the new building. So by the plans very nature, it had to be secret.

The church had no plan in effect to renew or approve elders. There was never any need. The elders had always been "as approved by God". 10 of the last 15 elders would begin to shed some doubt on that.

The Elders did not even need a majority at first, because some of the elders went along unwittingly.

This edition starts shortly after some of the members begin to smell something strange in January 2001. Later editions may go back and fill in some of the timeline.

To even start to understand whats happening here, you must read the background materials in the first of the book.

This is only the first edition, and not the end. New editions will be printed as needed. To keep abreast of current changes, please visit our web site;

Here is the list of players;

5 Godly Elders
10 Not so Godly Elders
120 "Deacons" (allegiance unknown)
2,800 - 4,000 church "members"
2 "teners" (people who have publicly confessed to have broken all ten commandments)
Unknown number of "sinners" (This is what the 10 elders call us.)
Unknown number of "demons" (Flying everywhere, to many to count)
