I've posted once before, but still consider myself new to the board. I just have to tell y'all that I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Mr. Drury about 3 months ago. I just got the film developed of the pictures that I took. He is such a nice man. I'm sure he gets really tired sometime of having to pose for pictures with these people he doesn't know at all.
I've been a fan of The VIRGINIAN since it aired in 1962 or 63 (can't remember for sure). I'm also really glad that the Hallmark channel is airing reruns. I tape as many as I can so that I can watch them when they're no longer aired. I've got my VCR set for tonight's episodes.
I was reading some of the posts and someone mentioned a Reunion with the remaining stars! Wouldn't that be AWESOME???I would certainly love to see that happen. Who all is left beside James Drury, Roberta Shore, Randy Boone, Clu Gulager?
Welcome to the board. Gary Clarke is also alive and still appearing at conventions with Jim, Roberta and Randy. Clu Gulager has become something of a recluse recently according to reports. Don Quine is alive last time I heard. Sara Lane hasn't been heard from in years. Jim last saw her around the early seventies when he helped her after her house was damaged.
Thank you Paul for the welcome. I'm surprised you mentioned DON QUINE. I really liked him, but never saw him in anything else after the Virginian. He could have starred in things, but I just missed them. Do you know if he stayed with the acting or just did something else? Did Sara Lane ever do anything else? She's another one I never saw after that (atleast I missed it if she did). Does anyone have an address for Randy Boone so that I could write to him? Thanks again Paul.
I've answered your Don Quine question on a new thread Teri. Sara Lane just disappeared out of sight when her role in 'The Virginian' finished. It would be great to know what she's been doing all these years. Sorry, but I don't have a contact address for Randy Boone. He still appears at Western conventions though.
Hi there, Teri-and welcome!
That's really nice you were able to meet Mr. Drury, and get photos, too. It's always great to have a wish fulfilled, makes the journey more interesting!!
I only just discovered The Virginian on the Hallmark channel this past summer while I was laid up with an injury. I was really pleased to see it 3 times each Saturday! I was beginning to think the series would have to be a memory, and a foggy one at that. I don't even remember some of the other regular actors that you and Paul are speaking of on the posts in this thread. Sara Lane? I need my memory jogged.
In the meantime, I will just keep watching, taping, and enjoying the series. It is wonderful to have it back! I really enjoy all of the period clothing, buggies, furnishings, etc.
Sara Lane played Elizabeth Grainger on the show. She joined during the Charles Bickford seasons and remained through the John McIntire seasons. Her acting style was different to Roberta Shore, but she played the same type. Roberta was quite animated and bubbly as you know, whereas Sara was more reserved and thoughtful.
Hello Paul.
Thanks for the info. I wish I could remember Elizabeth Grainger. I know I saw all or nearly all of the The Virginian episodes aired growing up, and yet I can only say that a certain few characters remain in my memory. Weird. It just seems as though Betsy should have stayed put! I sure hope that the series continues to be aired long enough and enough seasons to get to the episodes with the Graingers in them. You just never know when they'll be yanked off the air.
Ready for stupid question (LOL) number 2? Who did Don Quine play? Please...?
Don Quine played Stacey Grainger. His parents had been killed in an Indian raid. He was introduced in Season 5. So we have a long wait for him to appear. I hope Hallmark gets that far!
Any more questions Tina?
Thanks Tina! It kind of looks like you, me and Paul are the only ones right now posting! Maybe others are just "reading" and waiting for the right topic! Thanks again for the welcome!
