I reread The Virginian. At the end of chapter 32, The Virginian and his friend come upon Shorty. They have just come from the hanging of Steve, the Virginian's friend.
Steve had written a message for the Virginian. On the paper he writes, "Goodby, Jeff." The Virginian acknowledges that Steve called him Jeff. The Virginian never says that Jeff isn't his name. Is it not logical therefore to assume that Jeff is his name?
Hi, I read that you had read Wister's book "The Virginian". Wister wrote another book titled "Lin McLean". I just got a copy and haven't had time to read it yet, so I can't tell you much about it. I loved reading "The Virginian" and have read it several times.
This group doesn't get much action. Kirby Jonas, the owner, has started a new group. It is very up to date with a letter from James Drury, the group is authorized by JD himself, there are photos, and links at the site. We have photo of JD taken at the first of October when he appeared in Branson.
To join the group go to The_Virginian_authorized-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or email me at Sharon1126059@aol and I will send you an invitation. We are a fun group and love to talk about anything "Virginian"
Several years ago I watching an episode of the Virginian; Bettie Davis was the guest star. She was talking to Trampas about his friend being in jail. She refered to the Virginian by name. If you have that DVD, please let me know his name. Hopefully the mystery will finally be solved
