GELACTIC APLET @<~ APPLE CANDY

THE FIRST TIME I HAD APLETS pronounced APPLETS WAS AT A FALL FESTIVAL AND EVERY FALL I LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING THEM AGAIN. THEY ARE SO GREAT AND HOOPYLICIOUS.

APLETS ARE FIRM APPLE GEL CANDYS ROLLED IN SUGAR ABOUT 1 INCH long BY 1/2 INCH.

http://www.aplets.com

http://www.beans-around-the-world.com/cashmere.html

GROUND WALNUTS CAN BE ADDED TO APLETS WHILE MAKING THEM.

THE FIRST TIME I MADE THEM I USED HAWS OR HAWTHORN APPLES @<~ BEING A WILD FOD SPECIALIST. SEE FORAGING THE EDIBLE WILD.

2 ½ Cups Apple Sauce
4 Tablespoons Unflavored Gelatine
2 Teaspoons Lemon Juice
2 Teaspoons Vanilla
4 Cups Confectioners/Bakers Sugar.
& Fine Sugar for rolling around in.
OPTIONAL ~ 1 ½ Cup finely choped walnuts.

DO NOT USE PREPARED APPLESAUCE FROM THE STORE OR THE APLETS WILL NOT SET FIRM.
MY THEORY IS APPLES CONTAIN PECTIN AND PROCESSING FOR STORES REMOVES SOME OF IT.

MAKE APPLESAUCE BY PEELING, COREING AND
SLICING 8 APPLES AND THEN BOIL THEM IN 1/2 CUP WATER. 2 CUPS SUGAR MAY BE ADDED. SIMMER UNTIL THICKISH. REMOVE, AND COOL.
TO 1 CUP APPLE SAUCE ADD 4 TBS. GELATINE AND LET SET ABIT to go within itself. If it becomes sentient it may meditate.

INTO THE REMAINING APPLE SAUCE IN A MEDIUM SAUCE PAN STIR 4 CUPS SUGAR oh how sweet it is.

STIRRING CLOCKWISE to bring in positive energy ADD IN THE GELATINE APPLE SAUCE MIXTURE.

STIRRING CONSTANTLY BRING IT TO A BOIL. Let it bubble, bubble, bubble away all your troubles to hang stuck to the highest thorn on a Hawthorn Apple tree.@~

BRING IT TO SIMMER AT THE LOWEST HEAT AND SIMMER 15 MINUTES STIRRING OCASSIONALY.

ADD 2 TBS. LEMON JUICE remembering your journeys and that if life gives you lemons make lemonade. AND SIMMER 5 MINUTES LONGER STIRRING but do not upset it.

REMOVE MIXTURE FROM THE HEAT. It should be well mixed up if not confused.

ADD 2 TBS. VANILA STIRRING CLOCKWISE to make it positive being.

OPTIONAL If feeling nutty ~> ADD 1 ¹/² CUPS FINELY CHOPPED WALNUTS DEPENDING ON HOW YOU LIKE THEM. STIRR UP REAL WELL put your pun here.

BUTTER AN 8 x 8 INCH SQUARE CAKE PAN WITH THE END OF A STICK OF BUTTER OR MARGARINE.

POUR THE APPLE MIXTURE INTO THE BUTTERED PAN, COVER VERY LOOSELY AND LET SET OVERNIGHT until it feels forgotten if it has feelings and gels up. Apologise to it and cool it down by leaving in the refrigerator abit uncovered.

WHEN FIRM CUT INTO SQUARES OF ABOUT 1 INCH, PUT A LAYER OF CONFECTIONERS / BAKERS SUGAR ON A PLATE AND THEN ROLL THE APPLE SQUARES IN THE SUGAR UNTIL THEY'RE EVENLY COATED. I then wonder how it would be with a Cinnemon~Sugar mix. Yes, you are playing with your food ~ heh heh. "Roll, roll, roll the Aplet over the sugar so fiiinnne. Merrily, merrily, merrily lets do it one more time...."

They sure look good and are gelicious.

THIS SHOULD MAKE 36 TO 42 APPLETS
DEPENDING ON THE SIZE. Should be about 1 inch long. If you make 42 put afew aside for Douglas Adams and life the universe and everything. He wrote ~ The Hitchikers Guide To THe Galaxy.

@~ Haws come from the Hawthorn tree ~ They are small and red or yellow ( harder to locate but I prefer them because of fewwer and soft seeds so dont need to seed them). For Haw Candy recipe, Haw and wild food infromation go to Foraging THe Edible Wild

http:/community.webtv.net/Taimloyd/FORAGINGTHEEDIBLE

NOW WHAT DO I DO WITH ALL THE APPLE PEELS?

WHILE LOOKING FOR INFROMATION ON APLETS I CAME ACROSS THIS ABOUT ~ TURKISH DELIGHT WHICH LOOKS ABIT LIKE APLETS AND IS MENTIONED AND WHICH EDMOND LIKED IN THE BOOK AND MOVIE ~ THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE BY C.S. LEWIS. THEY DO LOOK IN BEANS-AROUND-THE-WORLD.COM LINK ABOVE HEY HAVE A SIMILAR NAME.

REMEMBER WHERE YOUR TOWEL IS @<~ AND LET'S HAVE AN APLE GOD TIME.

Neat Recipe

I have never heard of aplets before but they sound good.

I am always looking for new ways to fix apples and I think I will give this a try. I am pretty sure the younger kids in the family would like them.

Thanks, Timeloyd.

HAW CANDY

September 19 2007, 9:55 AM

HAW THORN CANDY

They are made from the small Apple like Haws found growing on the Hawthorn Tree

http://www.brickfieldspark.org/data/hawthorn.htm

http://www.globalherbalsupplies.com/herb_information/hawthorn_pictures.htm

INGREDIENTS

1 Cup mashed Haw Sauce ~ RECIPE BELOW
4 Tbs. / 1 oz Unflavored Geletin
4 Cups Confectioner's/Baker's Sugar
2 Tsp. Lemon Juice
2 Tsp. Vanilla
Fine Sugar for rolling around in. Not you ~ the Haw Candy.

HOW TO MAKE HAW CANDY

To 1 Cup of mashed Haw Sauce add 4 Tbs.
1 oz. Unflavoired Gelatin. Stir well clockwise until all mixed up. Let set abit to become absorbed.

Add 1/2 Cup Water and 4 Cups of Sugar to the Sauce. Bring to a boil stiring constantly. After boiling turn down to lowest simmer. Simmer 15 minutes.

Add 2 tbs. Lemon Juice. Simmer low 5 minutes longer.

Meanwhile Butter an 8 x 8 inch pan with the end of a stick of Butter / Margarine.

Remove the mixture from the stove and add 2 tsp. Vanilla.

Pour it into the Buttered Pan, let set uncovered abit. Put towel over it and let set overnight (10 hours or more) to firm up. Put in refrigerator till ready to serve..

For HAW LEATHER put it in a cookie sheet Roll out flat till thin enough and let set and dry abit.. You can then make it into HAW FRUIT ROLLS.

For HAW CANDY put a layer of Confectioners / Bakers sugar on a plate.
Cut jellied candy into 1 inch squares or rectangles, and roll each section of candy in the Fine Sugar until it's evenly covered. You can shape them if you wish while singing. Isn't this playing with you food or hawsing around? Specialy if you are singing while making the Haw Candy.

HAWTHORN SAUCE FOR HAW CANDY ....

The Stems and Flower Ends HAVE to be removed. Seeds are not removed unless you have a lot of patience or a kid.
If seeds are real hard strain them or remove with tip of knife.
Haws do not have to be peeled. I cut the Haws in half before cooking.

Oh yes~You can pull / push half a Hawthorn Apple over a Sliver to help remove the sliver.

ADD 1 CUP WATER TO 2 CUPS of HAWS (UNPEALED) and BOIL them UNTIL they are SOFT, and CHECK SEEDS. IF HARD STRAIN the SEEDS out OTHER WISE FORGET ABOUTHEM. IT MAKES ABOUT 1 CUP HAW SAUCE.

The Haws do not have to cook all the way down to Apple Sauce appearence, just until very soft. May be mashed if neccssary and are used with skins ....
Makes 1 Cup of Haw Sauce.

With many types of Haws the seeds get soft when cooking them. I like the Yellow Hawthorn is better as the seeds are so very soft they seem absent even when eating the fruit raw. Yellow Haws seem harder to find then Red Haws and are often planted as ornamental trees so ask before coilecting if in somebodys yard. See Foragers Agreement at begining of Foraging The Edible Wild site.

I have decided to put some Haw Sauce in Mason/SpaghettiSauce type Jars. Then I pour boilin water over them and tightening the lid several times to seal it.

I will use some in Apple Recepies using Apple Sauce. Lets see Apple
. . >@ ah I mean Aplet Candy ....

That's pretty interesting that you can use Haws.
I think I will probably stick with apples for now but I will keep the information in mind.
I thought of you today when I was sweeping and gathering the acorns out front. I always put them out in the woods so the wildlife can get to them and eat them but I remembered that you like to eat them too.
