SASSAFRAS JELLY
You Need ~
2 CUPS STRONG SASSAAFRAS TEA AND FULL or so of FINE SASSAFRAS BARK CHIPS
1 PACKAGE PECTIN
1 CUP HONEY
In a pot boil 2/3 Cups of strong Sassafras Tea.
NOTE : SASSAFRAS TEA in a large pot can be boiled down to this amount as a concentrate. Hmm I was Maple Sugaring once and had some Sassafras Root that was being boiled in a very large pot of real boiling Maple Syrup or Maple Water from Sugaring boduring a Maple Festival. Delicious ~ Hmmmm ....I wonder .. Sasafras Maple Jelly?
Sassafras with its three diferentg shaped leaves ~ like a hat, mitten and closed open hand is very easy to identuify in the snow as the new drowtgh is always green and so easy to see against the snow..

SASAFRAS JELLY RECIPE
I make it in Jars recycled form
ones I get with Mushrooms in them.
To 3 Cups Sassafras Tea Add 1 Package Of Pectin, and bring it to a rolling boil.Stiring clockwise to add positive energy
ADD 1 cup of honey. and while stirring add a handleful of fine Sassafras Bark Chips.
Bring everything to a rolling boil, and keep stiring clockwise until it passes the Jelly Test by coming off of the spoon in a sheet. Remove and pour into steralized jars. Seal ~ with pariffin, or double lids and pour boiling warer over pint jelly jars.
Let them enjoy sitting around till one day you feel like singing Dum de da, Dum de da, Dum de da dill and you feel you must go climbing up Sassafras Hill as you just have to have some Sassafras Jelly and Tea.

I tap the Maples on Sassafras Hill
And gather the roots of the Sassafras tree
This i'll boil and drink my fill
Of delicious Maple ~ Sassafras tea.

I decided to prepare for an emrgency
So I made me a staff of a Sassafras tree
Now if I'm lost you can plainly see
I'll just make me a cup of Sassafras tea.

I gather wild food on Sassafras Hill
And set up neith a Sassafras tree
Then I'll boil and eat my fill
A wild meal with Sassafras tea ....

I see the sunset on Sassafras Hlll
As I drink a cup of Sassafras tea
And watch the moonrise over Sassafras Hill
As I Iisten to the Sassafras brezze....

Now where is my Sassafras walking stick?
Reminds me I found a real Streight Sasafras Tree big enough around to wrap hands and sholder high which gave me an idea.
I dug it out with root still attaced to the tree. This is important as the root is shaped and
kept at top of walking styick while useing it. Thus make sure also that the top now the bottom is wide enough to walk with comfortably. The root is now tyhe top, and the trop the botom of the walking stick.
Carefulty trim the branches off of the Sasafras Tree til it looks more like a walking stick. Can you juggle it ? Use it as a Bo? If used in Self defense can also use it to heal injuries.
Save the streight pieaces of branches to whittle down to make a set of Sassafras Chop Sticks.
The leaves are saved and used in cooking for flavoring things like Gumbo.

I was at the Friendship Rondezvous foraging the woods and came across two streight Sassafras trees with Forks about even with my sholders so I cut them so I could use them like crutches to hold the cross pole of my Whellin Leanto when I go to 18th Century Rondezvous. I would take the bus there and use them like Cruthes as it was easier to transport them that way. My 7 Foot Sassafras Cross Bar was harder to transaport and I could get a cross bar at a Rondezvous to put on Sassafras forked stickes to hold Leanto up.
Then I hung a Dream Net I made from the Center of it so it would protect me from bad dreams when I slept. Hmmm wonder if I can make one on a Sassafras frame.
Sassafras is also a stimulent. One hot day I was walking along a prarie path with my Sasafras Walking Stick and was kinda tired. Then I got an idea. I scraped the root I left on top of the Sasafras Walking Stick I made. I then took a real deep whiff and happily floated down the trail on Sassafras fumes.
