Summer time blues

We have lived in the same house for the last nine years. Our office is on the west side of the house. Every summer we the same complaint, the office is the hottest room in the house. This year we decided to do something about it. We called in an AC man to add another vent. He checked everything out and told us that another vent would not help. He said that the duct work in the attic was not 'efficient', and it would be very expensive to replace.

He also said that since our AC was almost 10 years old it probably will have to be replaced soon anyway. The builder used the bare minimum requirements when purchasing/installing the AC for the house. He said in the meantime there was a couple of 'free' things we could do.

He adjusted the vent so half the air would flow toward the west wall window saying that it would cool the wall and keep the heat from coming in so much. He told us to take the thermal curtain we had in the craft room and put it on the office window. The craft room is in the back of the house and the window isn't on a west wall. Then he told us we didn't have the ceiling fan going in the 'summer direction'. Apparently clockwise is winter mode and counterclockwise is summer mode. Who knew? Not me.

Anyway, we did all this and the office is much cooler now. We should have called the man nine years ago. [linked image]

Hot Hot Hot

June 25 2009, 9:40 PM

Well, that sounds like quite an easy fix. [linked image]

I think this summer is getting to me. It's really hot here...humidity is awful, too. I like to be outside but it's just not
possible right now.

Of course, I always have plenty of things to take care of inside the house but it's not as much fun as the outside stuff happy.gif

We are having a big cook out for the 4th. I hope it cools down before then or I might have to cancel....lol. It's crazy weather happy.gif [linked image]

On Fire

June 26 2009, 8:07 PM

Well, maybe I should just move to Alaska...that would fix it!

It was a little better today but one of the cats was taking a nap in the birdbath...lol. I guess that was a cool spot but the birds weren't real happy about it. [linked image]

We didn't live here then, but we were here visiting my mother. We had a case of coke in the car and it exploded...what a mess! [linked image]

It's good to 'see' you two back posting. It was getting way to quiet in here.

Noise...

June 26 2009, 10:39 PM

You want noise, Blondie? [linked image]

My house has been noisy all week...I came here to eat my M&M's in peace...lol.

Yeah, it's good to come and say hello. This summer is crazy for me and it's hard to get online. The college kids are home
for the summer and keep coming here to use my computer.

You never did tell me....when do kids grow up and REALLY leave home? [linked image]

Oh, you know how much I love 'em [linked image]

Well, kids do eventually leave home, but they return again and again. Sometimes with more that just dirty laundry. [linked image]

I know you love them and I know they love you too. You may have to buy some ear plugs. wink.gif

You need a solution to get your kids out of the house you say? OK, here it is...

June 27 2009, 9:48 AM

Fire! That's right, burn it to the ground... it's the only way. Wait a year until they finally relocate, and then build it back with the insurance money. The door locks will all be new; so for Heaven's sake and just to be safe, don't issue them new keys!

Sorry, my solutions lately are all limited to one answer... Fire!

Sick of your current job? Fire!
Need a tough stain out?... Fire!
Sick of Billy Mays telling you you need a tough stain out?.... Fire!
Cat won't get out of the bird bath? Fire!
