We're 80 miles from an emergency vet. Our regular vet has standard hours, and if I want to get a dog in for a routine visit it's not a problem - but try having a giant dog euthanized on a holiday weekend. Not good.

It's the downside of living in a rural community. I would say the plus side is that veterinary care for routine stuff is extremely inexpensive.
