but my vet or his staff know my voice on the phone and know I don't panic or call unless it's needed or scheduling an appt or something. and even when he stopped doing after hours emergencies,he gave a few of us his cell phone number. My Savanna's bloat surgery was done on a late Sunday. When he built his new clinic,he was happy to take me on a tour.He just has always been all about the animals. He has cried with me on the loss of an oldie.I've used him for 16 years now.I know I've posted before that when we were transferred to Mn and I had to find a vet,I talked to a lot of people and then narrowed it down to 3.I called to set up a meeting or lunch,my treat,to "check" them out.One flat out refused and I've heard so many horror stories about them over the years. They are the kind that takes your dog in the back for treatment or whatever.NOT my dog!The next 2 were awesome (neither one let me pay for their lunch )I chose my vet based on his attitude and exceptional surgical and diagnostic skills. He still goes to specialty clinics on his own to learn new technique, etc and he's been a vet for 30 years.I also participate in any treatment, even standing right there during surgeries.I know for sure he saved one dog's life for me and after about 20 hours sitting on the floor with my dog,he begged me to go home.He sat right there with my dog all night and the staff found him asleep right next to my dog.I think the love affair began right then

If he doesn't have an answer to something I ask,he will call me as soon as he finds the answer.I know he has even called a vet in Germany to get answers in treating a rescue I once had.I could gush about him all day.My hubby says I have a crush on him.LOL I use the other vet as my backup. He is more holistic and not the best surgeon and I've had a few issues over the years with his staff. In fact,he is always changing staff. But he has never failed me in a pinch. He does get a tad "itchy" when I call several times a day to check on a dog that had to stay in the clinic for some reason but he's nice about it.It's just "that Becky's way so humor her".LOL I think my search in finding a vet was worth it.The piece of mind is so worth it.If I'm out of town and something happens to one of my dogs, there is a standing order in writing to do anything that is needed.I trust my vets that much.I live 45 minutes in good traffic from my vet. There is a local guy here but he mainly does farm calls and thinks all "that show stuff" is ridiculous and the owners are paranoid.I'm 2 hours from the U of MN.If my vet ever retires,I'll go into serious depression.
