I have a 5 month old Female Akita that has been suffering from loose stools off and on for quite some time. On occasion it will start out firm and finish soft or all soft or all firm.

I have been feeding her Orijen large puppy formula for about a month, She was eating Merrick whole earth puppy formula prior. I feed her about 4 cups every morning, she currently weighs 51 pounds.

She also loves to eat dirt, either small clods or licking dust off the trail. This has become quite the game when on the trail and I catch her and tell her "No Dirt" She will race around in circles and look at me as she stops for another lick of dirt.

My girlfriend was walking her the other day and spotted a what appeared to be a tape worm in her stool. I have been checking her stools off and on for quite some time and have never spotted anything unusual. Anyway, took her to the Vet and explained the situation and she ended up getting a shot for tape worms. I have also taken a stool sample in but have not yet received those results.

She is extremely active and gets to run in the woods around the lake with me every night, easily 4 miles a night.

Any thoughts on the loose stool and dirt consumption issues?
