Hello everyone! My long coat, Raidon, has been diagnosed by two specialists with a partial ACL tear in his right knee.
Quick overview:
Raidon weights 65 pounds. On May 11 he was romping with his sister
and afterwards wouldn't bear weight on his rear right leg. Fast forward to
today, he has been diagnosed by two specialists with a partially torn ACL,
muscle atrophy in his leg, and mild arthritis. I've tried rest and supplements
but the atrophy in his leg tells me this didn't happen a month ago, but a while
ago.
The first specialist is a board certified surgeon who will ONLY consider the TPLO at the rate of $4000. I wasn't impressed with his bedside manner or his unwillingness to consider less invasive possibilities, so I decided to seek a second opinion. The second specialist was a human surgeon priot to switching to veterinary surgery. This second specialist wants to do the Tightrope Technique with the potential for
fibial head transposition once he gets in and actually sees what's wrong. He's not married to any procedure over another, but he does not do TPLO surgeries because he believes they are too invasive. He
estimates max of $2500.
The TTA looks interesting but no one in my area will do it.
Raidon is a moderately active dog. We go on walks for 30-45 min twice a day, the occasional bike ride, and when I can find an enclosed area I let him run with his sister, Raegen.
