Well 10 days after Kuma finished his pain killers and anti inflammatory he was again in a lot of pain this morning. Not quite as bad as before but still a lot. Rushed him to the vets and after some very detailed and thorough physical checks nothing was found. When his lower chest was examined he cried out a lot! The vet said it was probably anxiety as when he re examined the area he wouldn't make a peep! It was decided to keep him in for the day for more x-rays and a prostate scan.
They came back with nothing so the fingers slowely pointing to the spondylosis. The only other thing left is an MRI scan for nerve/disc problems.
At the moment he is home on more pain killers with a check up next week:( the vet did say at his age it could be a chronic thing for which he would need painkillers for the rest of his life :( its a hard pill to swallow as up until recently he was never an 'old' dog in my eyes! He went grey in his face early in life but physically he has always been so youthful! He's only 8 and I guess for a large dog that's old but for an Akita I thought 10 onwards is considered old.
He was so upset when I left him at the vets he was trying to chase after me with the vet in tow despite the pain he was putting himself through. That broke my heart!
Sonit looks like its the spondylosis. We've got to wait and see how to make him comfortable, which most probably means pain killers for life :( | |
