hey muzz if your acoustic does not have a pickup your gonna need 2 mics unless your gonna record the vocal and guitar separate!

software wise id get cubase with some really good external vst reverbs, compressors and EQ! the waves collections are amazing and the psp vintage warmer!

I use Kristal which is basic and easy to use.

I got a mic from the pound shop which i sellotape to my acoustic and another from the pound ship that i use for vocal.

Obviously the quality of the mic is important, but i lucked out with the ones that i've bought. Some have been shit, but wasting a pound isn't much of a waste at all.

If you want to use that program it's free to download here: http://kristal-audio-engine.en.softonic.com/

not bad troubadour! A decent sound for some pound shop mics, you would benefit from a really nice condenser and a SE Electronics Reflexion Filter though!

Thanks a lot.

What is all that stuff you speak of and which pound shops stock them?

condenser

A condenser microphone is essentially a capacitor, with one plate of the capacitor moving in response to sound waves. The movement changes the capacitance of the capacitor, and these changes are amplified to create a measurable signal. Condenser microphones usually need phantom power (+48v) provided on most mixers and audio interfaces.

reflexion filter

The Reflexion Filter is basically a portable device for recording live sound sources with reduced room ambience. It is an advanced composite wall which is positioned behind any microphone by means of a variable position stand clamp assembly which ships with the product. The main function is to help obtain a ‘dry’ vocal or instrument recording. This is especially useful in studios without proper acoustic treatment, but can also be used to help record takes in control rooms, where the performer also has to operate the recording device, or in rehearsal studios to reduce ambient noise.

both can be bought online at any pro audio store!

Cheers.

Would you say they are essential for my shitty voice?

Any idea how much? I have to be stringent with regards to costs, after all, if they were £10 that'd be 1000% what i paid for the last one :-)

if you want to get a good sound then yes they are essential... a good condenser can cost around 100. this ones really good and really cheap at the moment http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/5090/a/r/e/tradedoubler

and the refelxion filter is around 150 but isnt really needed! you can get the same effect from a pop shield.
