I saw Amy Winehouse sing "Free Nelson Mandela" but I can't work out if she was very good or very bad. It was hard to tell.

.org usually knows what's good. Opinions please?

She's a fraud from head to toe, and her "talent" extends no further than her ludicrously fake vocal. Seven years ago she would have been doing Nina Simone on Stars In Their Eyes. Nowadays they give them record deals and kudos.

Well, you did ask...

She's the best musician currently putting out stuff - looking forward to seeing this :)

She's depressing to look at, she's so unhealthy. That's fine for a guy, but for a woman that's not good.

I like her albums and that verging on Vic Reeves club singer doing Nina Simone voice but I must admit I was disappointed to see the US TV version of Me & Mr Jones that I posted the link to where the vocal style was very diluted and almost Mariah Careyesque at times.

"She's a fraud from head to toe"

exactly! i've never understood why people don't just listen to the music her and ronson blatantly rip off instead. it's miles better.

spot the difference:

Listen to both! She's got a lot more going for her than just retro-ness (she's not Duffy or Sharon Jones.. people like that don't seem to add anythhing new)

I don't think she's added much new, other than whining, self-pitying lyrics. She's no more talented than all the other very good impersonators who graced Stars in their Eyes over the years - the only difference is she's been cynically packaged up and marketed into an act.

And occasionally she overdoes it so much that she sounds like Charlie Brown's schoolteacher.

She's like a fairly average drag act, to be honest.

"If my man was fighting
Some unholy war
I would be behind him
Straight shook up beside him
With strength he didn't know
It's you I'm fighting for
He can't lose with me in tow
I refuse to let him go
At his side and drunk on pride
We wait for the blow "

"He left no time to regret
Kept his dick wet
With his same old safe bet
Me and my head high
And my tears dry"

"What kind of fuckery is this?
You made me miss the Slick Rick gig
You thought I didn't love you when I did
Can't believe you played me out like that

No you ain't worth guest list
Plus one of all them girls you kiss
You can't keep lying to yourself like this
Can't believe you played yourself out like this"

"I'm my own man so when will you learn
That you got a man but I got to burn
Don't make no difference if I end up alone
I'd rather have myself a smoke my homegrown
It's got me addicted, does more than any dick did"

Ha-ha - she was dreadful - she was coming in at the wrong time and looked like she'd forgotten half the words, but you couldn't really tell no-one could hear what she was singing!

Did she just do those two (Rehab and Valerie)? Thought that was a great performance
