Ive heard 'Rip it up' and 'Cant help myself' on the radio recently, both in the past couple of days, and now i need to get hold of some more.
I figure i should start with the firts album and work on, but ive seen that the tracklisting to Rip It Up has both those tunes on it, so that seems appealing too.
Can anyone help with me getting started? Id really appreciate a link if you can?
Thanks

you should definately listen to their first commercial album 'you can't hide your love forever' if you liked the sort of over production of 'rip it up'.
i don't mean over production in a bad way, but when compared to their postcard records stuff (available on 'the glasgow school' compilation), it sounds really over the top. i love the rough edged orange juice present on said compilation. i reccomend it highly, but it's quite different from his later efforts on major labels. their postcard records stuff is definately the best though; one of my favourite bands.

i'm uploading a .zip file with quite a lot of stuff in it just now for you. i was going to just upload the whole glasgow school compilation, but decided to just pick some tracks off each album so you can see what i mean about the difference between their postcard records singles and their later, more polished stuff. there are two versions of some songs in there aswell. i've just put all the songs in folders with the name of the album they were on.
personal favourites: blue boy, poor old soul, falling and laughing, felicity, wan light & dying day.
the 'blokes on 45' track that is on the glasgow school was a peel session in which they took the piss out of the 'stars on 45' style releases, where several of a band such as the beatles hits were mixed together under a disco beat during the early 80s.
but yea, definitely a favourite band of mine, as you can probably tell by now! i think the importance of their early stuff is quite underestimated, as they were the first really fey, dandy, camp and poetic guitar band a good couple of years before the smiths made it fashionable (a band they no doubt had an influence on). you can easily spot the influence amongst bands such as franz ferdinand aswell. but yea, great band.

brilliant, you are an absolute star. I really do appreciate the effort your putting in, i hope the good deed gets returned somehow.
(i could offer a swap of some sort, but of what is anyones guess)
Thanks again, and im looking forward to it all.
big up

hopefully that works, i haven't uploaded any music in ages, so i can't really remember the process, but i hope those tracks work. most people i know either love or hate the glasgow school stuff, so let us know what you think.

i think im edging a lot towards the later stuff by the sounds of things. maybe thats just because of the sound i thought i was going to hear though, not what they used to be like.
high points so far are 'lean period' and 'bridge' i think, only been through once or twice so far.
thanks again.
