I think it's my favourite song by the Mystery Jets ever. don't understand why they didn't wrote more songs in that kind of direction. like a handmade The Rapture. or british !!!.

'Scarecrows in the rain' and 'Crossroads' are both brilliant, so I was gutted when i heard '21'. I guess maybe they had to try something new but 80's sound isn't that new. It's been done before. Mostly in the 80's.

I'm absolutely gutted by the mystery jets new sound, it's been ages since making dens and i was really excited when i heard they were recording a new album but it's just shit. Alas Agnes and You Can't Fool Me Dennis are still classics though. oh and Zoo Time.

I think their best songs were on the early singles. even the debut didn't really cut the mustard.
the new album is alright, some great songs like Young Love but nothing to write home about in the end.

I think Mystery Jets could have written a "Making Dens 2", but it that really what you want? I think their second album is still really good, even if it sounds different to the first.
About the song "crosswords": I agree with the thread starter that it is a really good song, but isn't it really similar to the Arctic Monkeys? They may have even written it before AM became big, but still I don't think it would have been a really clever move to use the same style for the second album.

I don't think it's similar to Arctic Monkeys, it's more fagile, more dance-orientated. Monkeys are way more muscular and kind of threatening.
I still think it sounds like a The Rapture demo, which is a good thing cause I don't know any other band that sounds like Rapture AND that I do like.
