They're not the actual nominations, it's just a shortlist compiled by NME of who they think should be on the official shortlist announced tomorrow.

In Rainbows FTW.

aye NME always thinks dropping in a token (hip-hop or grime or whatever) artist into anything makes their music taste or knowledge far-ranging and gives them substance beyond indieponces. it does not.

anyways, IN RAINBOWS for me, or Alas I Cannot Swim. My two faves of the year

I think Laura Marling will be announced and should win.

We'll see what pops up tomorrow.

Lightspeed Champion or Laura Marling for me. Theyre the two ive listen to the most.

I liked the Radiohead album but I dont think it was a patch on Kid A, Ok Comp, Bends or even Hail to the Theif.

Paul Weller gets my nod. An amazing record, totally blown away by it. Are the mercury's only for british acts?

MIA is better than anything else on that list - doubt if she's bothered about a Mercury Award though

Since The Mercury started giving the award to bands that actually sell records, it's not quite the curse it used to be. Someone shit and undeserving will win it but if Laura Marling or These New Puritans or Burial or Lightspeed Champion win, I'll be happy.

There's been a handful of decent mainstream albums in the last year. I'd go for Radiohead, Elbow, MIA or Portishead.

Laura Marling or Radiohead should definitely win it. Dunno what's with the slagging of Shotters Nation though. Might not deserve to win, but it's a lot better than some of the tripe on the list.

I'd love for Johnny Flynn to win it. There's nothing really that innovative that has come out in the last year so might as well just give it to the best album.

I'd love laura marling to win but I guess it's gonna be kate nash with his founfations....
If pete wins, he won't deserve it but it will good for his reputation as a musician and not an addict to win such a price
