i dont know if it will be to be honest - it hasnt been well advertised as far as I can see. If its anything like their shows back inthe day it will be fucking mental. Sex change operations projected behind the band, nude female dancers, insane psychedelic noise manipulation.
The Buttholes Surfers = The Flaming lips on bad acid.

bloody hell! sounds interesting...it hasnt sold out either. i remember i got a flyer for it outside one of the MBV gigs then totally forgot about it til i was walking out the forum after the BJM last week and saw a poster...so would agree the publicity has been on the low side

yeah im going to the Manchester one. Daniel Johnston / Sparklehorse is a brilliant bill, hope it lives up to it as the last time was spoiled by Jeffrey Lewis and Adem's shite attempt at being his backing band.

oh really?! i thought jeff lewis mightve worked - thats a shame! Adem backed him for some of it at the Union Chapel gig last year...and James Yorkston...on the whole I liked it quite a lot.
I haven't even looked at the flyer for this one in a while but I thought Scout Niblett and someone out of Yo La Tengo were playing with him too...hopefully i'm right in that

No need to get personal Shaun. None at all. Not over one of the most resounding singers of her generation. Lyrically broad, incisive and witty with a haunting lo-fi sound - you really need to listen to her again and again.
Have fun on saturday!

Yep Calicowall, well Mark Linkous. Last time the back up bands played their own set before backing Dan J so im hoping Linkous does some stuff.
I would have thought Jeff lewis woudl have worked as well but i was really disappointed. Adem was horrendous - really pretentious and smarmy, but jeff lewis solo set was great. It was when they backed him up I was really disappointed. They didn't know how to play the songs and it seemed as if they were making it all about themsevles, thinking people would be satisfied enough with the freakshow/novelty of simply watching Daniel Johnston on a stage. They ruined one of my favourite songs by using only hand bells for back up (sounded nothing like the song), and it really annoyed me as Dan J on his own was on top form yet they seemed to completley boss the lineup having more stagetime then anyone.
Hopefully this lineup will be more professional and actually give the songs the respect they deserve. Heres the gig details: http://www.myspace.com/pineapplefolkmusic .

yeah...everyone i went with loved it too but there wasnt really enough going musically for me...also all the best stuff clashed due to the small-ish size of it. couldve been worse but didnt think it was worth the £150 or whatever...beat a kick in the teeth though...did the trick as some kind of stop-gap
