For me, it's JFK. I have no fucking idea why. I'm half way through watching it for the billionth time and i had to get off my sofa to go to the shop and get some bread and milk before it closes and i was actually trembling! Shitting myself getting out of the house, strode really fast to the car and slammed the door once i got in.

Why the fuck?! It's not like i think the US government is after me. The deep paranoia must resonate within me somehow. It was just after the Donald Sutherland monologue bit which is really powerful. There's loads of great moments though

Jack Lemmon: You are so naive

John Candy: You as crazy as yo momma! Just goes to show it's in the genes...

Joe Pesci: I'm a fucking dead man! Do you know what you've done to me?! I can't go home.. I CAN'T GO HOME!

A lot of it is fantasy but it still shits me up, the whole thing.

JFK is a powerful film though, I`ve read several books on the Kennedy assassination and it was a crazy time in the U.S.A.
Knowledge was/is power. But it could also be a death sentence. Many people mysteriously died/vanished who may or may not have had some knowledge of what happened 22.11.63

The 70s remake with Donald Sutherland is great. The bit where he points and screams at her at the end is chilling

Maybe i'm just scared of Donald Sutherland?

Yeah, it's fucked up stuff. All the random car accidents on empty roads, suicides with unsigned notes, drug overdoses... and that's just about the individuals in very specific situations! And then there's the big picture - the overall plan put in place to get rid of Kennedy.. I'm not even sure if i BELIEVE most of the stuff Oliver Stone puts forward, but he does it so well that it's terrifying. The editing / sound effects really contribute to this.

Regardless of how seriously you take JFK, the U.S. was concerned enough by it, the film itself was (i believe) the reason that the HSCA was set up, but i could be wrong. Oliver Stone himself said that he felt that he`d "crossed the rubicon" after the film was released.

TThe ring used to scare me especially as when I got sleep paralysis it would be that girl I saw creeping up the bed towards me in that horrible manner. Urgh. Also, the Grudge because my bedroom door used to make that noise.

I watched Paranormal activity on my own the other day which was a bit of a mistake as I still keep freaking out a bit when I hear noises, especially as a glass just shattered on the spot in our living room the other day.

The shining gives me the creeps, Martyrs was pretty horrible too.

Yeah, The Shining really gets under my skin. It's great that it's so unexplained - leaves it all up to you.

I mean, WTF?!

[linked image]

It's explained in the book but Kubrick just throws it in without any explanation which makes it more odd / disturbing. Love that film

i love the shining. the 90s miniseries-type version of it was good and went into a lot more detail regarding jack's character, but i still find kubrick's version creepier

the ring doesnt do all that much for me (although that hallucination you described sounds horrific lisa. i get sleep paralysis from time to time but have never seen anything like that thank fuck), although i do find japanese horrors very unnerving. the eye is probably one of the creepiest

the sixth sense scared the shit out of me when i first saw it, too. the bit with the woman in the kitchen still fucks me up to this day

It was horrific, thankfully now I don't get that anymore though occasionally get sleep paralysis still.

The eye was quite creepy. Oh and the saw flms I just find incredibly disturbing because thqat is one sick mind that comes up with all that. I felt ill after I saw one of those at the cinema.

As a kid, any UFO/Alien movie/programme scared me witless. Hangar 18, Cocoon, Communion, Fire In the Sky, Contact, X Files. So much so I had an OCD-like obsessional distress about anything UFO related.

Nowadays films never scare me, only make me squeamish.

There's a film called The Return of Count Yorga, which kept me awake for years - not actually scary I don't suppose, just saw it at the wrong age. There's a horrific scene where a small kid chases a football in to a woods, he bends to pick it up, arms break up through the ground and drag him under. That was therapeutic.

Actually the birds scared me, not whilst watching it though.

I think the fact I'm scared of a lot of animals doesn't really help, for example if I walk through where a pigeon is eating and they don't get deterred by humans I become worried it will flap up in my face.

That had some quite horrific alien probe stuff didn't it? I can remember feeling a bit uneasy watching that

JAWS.

But i remember being in a swimming pool as a kid and there were these bars in the wall underwater where the wave machine thing came from. Me and my mate used to dare each other to go underwater and stick our legs through the bars and even though i KNEW there wasn't a shark there, it was still scary

Ha , so true we used to do that, although I'm not sure what it had to with Sharks, as we weren't really the jaws generation.

I did shit it when on Holiday in florida waist deep in the ocean though.

You know how I feel about Kubrick, Tom. And Blair Witch was shit.

The first time I read the book of The Shining I slept with the hallway light on. Those wrapped up fire hoses in buildings still make me nervous.

Other than that, Nightmare on Elm Street was really scary when I first saw it. When I was a kid I watched a film called Burnt Offerings which for some reason terrified me - I've watched it since and it's not that scary. Although there is a guy who drives a hearse who kills Betty Davis with a coffin and that part's still creepy. The Ring where the girl climbs out of the TV freaked me right out.

i was gonna say the 'don't look now' dwarf, that shat me up when i was a kid. there's a scene in 'spaced' where they're in a park looking for a lost dog or something and in the back of shot you see a child/dwarf in a red anorak run out from behind a tree, completely unrelated to the rest of the story. blink and you miss it.

similar to the best bit in jaws where just after the three of them are chatting away in the boat and quint gives his 'indianapolis' speech and then the shark attacks them for the first time. it cuts to a scene with brody loading his pistol and you see a shooting star go past in the background which is apparently real and just incredibly lucky.

I used to be scared of a few when i was younger, now i don't really enjoy many horror films because they usually stick to the same formula, although there is a charm in the b-movie, badly acted type.

I think with the classics i just watch them because they are good films, not scary, like The Shining, The Exorist, Rosemary's Baby.

I used to be scared of stuff like the childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Madamme Mimm in Sword In The Stone. Labrynth was particularly scary too if i remember, along with Masters Of The Universe.

I was always terrified by jaws when i was younger and I remember swimming in the sea a few years after I'd seen it and we swam out a bit, not too far but far enough. We were snorkelling so I had the mask thing on but we were just swimming and not actually looking underwater at that moment. Anyway all of a sudden I just felt the temperature of the water drop massively. It was freezing cold so i looked down underwater and there was like a drop off and it went so deep that I couldnt see the bottom and the coral just like blurred out at the end of my vision and I just got this weird sensation in my legs where i just started kicking fast because I thought i was gonna be sucked down and I imagined sharks coming up to get me. It was the most terrifying thing ever to happen to me. Really scary.

I liked blair witch, i liked all the viral stuff they did with it aswell. The shining is brilliant. Didnt really get scared by the ring or the grudge. 1408 i thought was absolute garbage. I went to see the strangers last year and I thought that was more scary. The film wasnt very good but there were some good moments in it. The scares didnt last very long though.

Tomorrow I am going to see The Fourth Kind, which is sort of horror (alien abduction), so I'll let you know how it is.

Got voted pretty much the most warped film ever, and was banned for about 50 years.

When I was very young the bloke on the train in Ghost and the bit at the end of Beetlejuice when they're dying scared me to tears.

Event Horizon is brilliant! Especially now it's on DVD as you can pause the recorded messages to see what's going on!

A film called Paranormal Activities (2007 version not the latest release) has been recommended to me as being pretty scary. Never heard of it or watched it before.

I like what they do in the Grudge (Asian version of course) where you're not even safe in your own bed!!
