I wish I had invested in a few now.

Bitcoin breaks $1,000 mark

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25120731

This might be a stupid question - but won't the fact that 1 bitcoin is worth over 600 quid impact on the use of them. What happens if I don't want to buy 600 quids worth of drugs or whatever it is I'm using it for? It isn't like you can split them is it?

For anyone that is interested, QuarkCoin has appreciated in value by 324% in the last 24 hours. You can trade your Bitcoins for them athttps://bter.com

In contrast Bitcoins has appreciated by around 8% in the last 24 hours. See herehttp://coinmarketcap.com/

I think buying QuarkCoin now is like getting in on Bitcoin in 2009. Well worth a punt if you already have Bitcoins

What's the story behind QuarkCoin? Looks like a lot have been mined - could be a massive pump & dump.. but can't really argue with 300% + in a day!

It's one of many crypto currencies out there now. Apparently it's a lot more secure than Bitcoin and it is just about to be introduced to some of the Chinese trading platforms which will probably push the price up even more so as they are the ones piling in most of the cash to these crypto currencies at the moment. It's only been around since the summer I think.

Interesting, thanks. Which site do you use to trade Quark? I've just sent a few bitcoins to Cryptsy but confirmation times are pretty long at the moment.

Kicking myself for not holding onto the ~2000 litecoins I bought at $2.

I use Bter.com No confirmation as they only trade crypto currencies so no banks are involved.

Quark is pretty volatile my account on Bter just went down by 60% and then back up another 60% in the space of a few minutes. I'm going to hold them for the long haul though so it doesn't matter.

Gambled on a few thousand Quarks and some Litecoins - I'm going away for the weekend, expecting to be a millionaire when I get back.

Fizzy, if you are new to crypto currencies then you have a bit of a learning curve ahead of you so I'd advise that you do a bit of research first as there are certain security issues and technicalities you need to know about first.

First you need to buy some Bitcoins. The best place to do that is fromhttps://localbitcoins.com/ . Set up an account there and buy some Bitcoins from one of the other users using UK bank transfer. There is a reasonable FAQ on there which will help you set things up and get the coins into your online wallet (LocalBitcons will supply you with an online wallet when you set up your account).

Once you have got your Bitcoins in your online wallet you can go to any of a number of crypto currency trading sites/platforms, I personally use Bter.com. Again, set up an account there and once you have done so you can then transfer your Bitcoins from your online LocalBitcoins wallet to your online wallet on Bter.com. You are now ready to trade your Bitcoins for any number of different crypto currencies on Bter.com.

Also, make sure you get the addresses right when transferring coins from wallet to wallet as once you send the coins the transaction is irreversible and if you don't put the correct address in your coins will be lost forever with no way of getting them back.
