off to edinburgh for a long weekend in a couple of weeks and looking for some food and drink establishment recommendations.

Off to a gig at usher hall as well so any close by watering hole recommendations for near there appreciated.

Give it your best shot, edinburgh has a lot to live up to following my trip to glasgow last year.

oh and if anybody fancies a beer obvs up for that too. weekend of 06 oct.

Yeah, Hanging Bat has been left behind a bit with a lot of other newer places. Will write you up some recommendations this eve, Mart.

Loads of decent gigs at Sneaky Petes. Check their line up herehttps://www.facebook.com/pg/sneakypetesclub/events/
Check if anything on a Henry's Cellar Bar

Head down Leith or to Tolcross they seem to be the trendy beer and food areas.

For near the Usher Hall -

Food/Drinks;

Beer Kitchen - Gastro Pub owned by Innis & Gunn, one of the most popular breweries in Scotland and from Edinburgh. Good beer selection and good food, too.

Lebowski's - A bar with a Big Lebowski theme. Burgers and cocktails it's thing.

Red Squirrel - Is just a few steps down and does great food and a huge selection of rotating craft beer wankery, This would be my recommendation.

The Hanging Bat - Still decent but overpriced and done better elsewhere.

Kanpai - Japanese restaurant. The best Sushi you'll get in Edinburgh. A little pricey but definitely worth it.

In general -

Food;

Chez Jules is my favourite French restaurant in town. In fact, one of my favourite restaurant anywhere. Authentic French food at a decent price.

Ting Thai Caravan - Thai place. It's a casual dining place with everyone sat elbow to elbow on benches. They do amazing Thai street food. Oh, and be warned; they are cash only.

Bentoya - Sushi almost as good as Kanpai but a lot cheaper. Semi casual, they are open for lunch and dinner.

El Cartel - Mexican. The best one in Edinburgh.

Divino Enoteca - Italian restaurant down in the Cowgate (the best place to head for if you want late night/music/club options as well)

The Dogs - A traditional Scottish restaurant in the middle of town. One of, if not the, best value restaurants in Edinburgh.

Mother India's Cafe - Indian in the Old Town. Tapas style dishes and top notch Indian food.

Kyloe - Steak restaurant very central. My favourite for steak.

Pubs;

Sheeps Heid Inn - The oldest pub in Scotland. Awesome place with a skittles alley. Great food, too. Beer is fairly standard but they have a nice selection of scottish ales. It's also right at the foot of Holyrood Park/Arthur's Seat and makes a great place to head for after a walk through the park (definite recommendation)

The Bon Vivant - Really nice cosy little bar/bistro. Excellent drinks and food is great too.

The Bow Bar - Proper pub with a great range of ales and whiskies. Just off the Grassmarket which is a nice walk - Like a little slice of Paris in Edinburgh (lots of cafes, bistros and pubs with on-street seating)

Sandy Bell's - A real Scottish pub experience. Standard Scottish beer selection, lots of whiskies and one of the best pints of Guinness in town as well. They host live Scottish folk music every day once in the afternoon at lunchtime and again all night from about 9 till close.

Oxford Bar - In the New Town, it's where Ian Ranking drinks. They do great burgers.

The Doric - Opposite Waverley Station. Another proper, old Edinburgh pub. It's very small and gets busy of an evening, so don't go expecting to get a table.

Craft Beer places;

Ox184 - Another place down in the Cowgate. Global selection of Craft Beer. Good food, too.

Bow Bar is also good for craft beer.

Brauhaus - Specialising in European/German beers.

Brew Dog is also on the cowgate.

Holyrood 9A - Specialising in craft beer. Mostly Scottish but continental options too.

Red Squirrel - As I said above, one of the biggest selections of craft beer in Edinburgh. Great pub.

Leith is basically becoming Edinburgh's Peckham/Dalston.

Well, The walk and the shore are. The rest of Leith is still a shithole.

For food check out L'escargot Bleu/Blanc (two different restaurants at opposite ends of town). The food is decent and you also get two for deals that make it good value. Plus they treat their wine menu with care.

Fishers in the City is also fucking brilliant if you fancy being a bit flash.

Teuchters would be my choice of pub. Always got some good beers on, next to a tram stop and you could walk to the usher hall in twenty minutes. It's got a fairly decent restaurant downstairs too.

The shore down Leith way is a great day out. So many good wee places to nip into.

Petit Paris on the Grassmarket is a nice little French restaurant which does a decent set lunch menu. The Oxford Bar is a great pub, well worth a visit.

For seafood, Ondine is much better than Fisher's and much fancier but at the same price point.

Teuchter's is a good shout. Great place.

Fantastic thanks chairman for that extensive list. And to everybody else who made suggestions.

Forgot to say on original post record shops too. Any good tips for those would be great.

Indeed, cheers Chairman. I pretty much live in Edinburgh now but don't know enough good places to go. Ondine will definitely be checked out (as will the dogs and el cartel).

Red Squirrel didn't do anything for me, though I was just in for breakfast.

Mart happy to catch up for a beer if I'm about, though dont want to I true on you two.

Niall time shouldn't be a problem. I just need to figure out where we're staying in relation to everything else suggested and come up with a plan. We've got a bit more time than in glasgow though so a pint or 3 would be grand. If you're around of course.

I'll add you on facebook, as I don't get on here as much as I used to. So easier for me to message you on there.
