The originals not all it’s cracked up to be, though it’s still worth a watch

I think the original is amazing, one of the best films ever. This new one was ok. Far too long, quite boring and ponderous in the middle. Harrison Ford saves it. Worth a watch, but not twice. I could watch the original every year.

The original has excellent things about it, but the story itself is pretty dry, and Deckard is shit at his job

The original has amazing asphetics and looks great for the time it was made but its pretty boring overall and isn't the best noir film, aside from all the futurism and gloss.

I think this could be seen as a pretty good film on its own terms, but for me it suffers in comparison with Blade Runner. Blade Runner has Harrison Ford onscreen for most of the runnning time, which is obviously preferable to Ryan Gosling (who I don't mind, but I never really cared what happened to his character). Blade Runner also has a decent villain in Rutger Hauer - this had that woman with the ponytail who liked kicking people. I dunno - it didn't grab me.

That said, there was some stunning stuff. The sex scene was amazingly inventive, the whole film looked great, it was pleasingly not dependent on mindless action scenes (though I found it a bit too slow) and the acting was pretty great all round. I'm sure people will love it, I just wanted to find it a bit more entertaining and engaging

Pretty similar to the original then. Looks great, acting is great, but is a little slow (read slightly boring)

Always thought the original was overrated but might be one of those that was so influential that watching it years later means it doesn't have the same impact. But didn't think the story or characters were that interesting.

A Facebook friend described it thus

"Bladerunner 2049. A film set in a post-anthropocenic baron world which deeply questions the morality of a society built on slaves. Full of utterly shameless product placement. Big sigh."

Fair, or?

So the original;

It's basically a badly paced Philip K Dick story. Not bad, not great.

The original is one of my favourite films of all time. The world building for it's time was unbelievable to my eyes when I first saw it in about 1990.

I'm just back from the cinema and I loved it. Comment about the antagonists are correct though so I'd give it 4/5. Don't agree with product placement comment as that was part of the original world making it look like a realistic vision of our future.

The sex scene was mesmerising and really inventive.

I am a fan of gosling and I think he was great again.

The best part of both films is that it leaves so many philosophical questions throughout.

the product placement quote is a joke, isn't it?
no one can be so daft to think it's product placement.

You mean on the big holograms, etc.. ? Well, it is still product placement if it's a brand that's paid to be there, slthough they didn't bother me

The one that bothered me was Harrison Ford mentioning Johnnie Walker whisky at the end. Seemed a bit crow-barred in. Then last week, I saw this:

What a load of shit. It's mysterious because women are mysterious? LOL
