Lots of communities do this, sometimes referred to as co-ops. While our family doesn't have the experience to grow enough food for profit and sharing, we have always appreciated the few people around who sell veges, eggs etc at the end of their driveway on honour systems. Some communities offer a basket of mixed veges for a few dollars per week. We would definitely take advantage of this. |

The response hasn't exactly been overwelming in the idea of growing food for your own family.
So I'll let the idea die an honourable death.

Dont give up hope yet ;)
Just need to figure out a good way to promote and implement, and this sites not likely the place. Let the veges stew here for a bit, and see if u get any more comments.
I also found a website yesterday, kinda like a food co-op, where groups of 5 or more families purchase goods (delivered) through mail-order, from a group of 185 farmers and other organic-type wholesalers. Waiting to recieve more info, pricing etc by email. Will post link or more info here.
Would be nice if products were grown locally, and through shared efforts, but this co-op sounds like a good start. |

I got the mail from that co-op.
It's quite complicated: Min.5 families required, min. $500 order for delivery, and it's all the same products as Organic food stores offer, with only a minor discount. No fresh veges, no breads/baked goods, no (non-organic) dairy products.
Im gonna keep my eye on this post though. Anyone else with good ideas for a McMurrichMonteith 'farmers market' or a farm-share program would be supported by our family.
If I thought there would be local interest, from buyers and sellers, I'd even consider coordinating & running a farmers market in Sprucedale! | |
