Scarlett O’Hara:
Oh, oh, Rhett. For the first time I’m finding out what it is to be sorry for something I’ve done.

Rhett Butler:
Dry your eyes. If you had it all to do over again, you’d do no differently. You’re like the thief who isn’t the least bit sorry he stole, but he’s terribly, terribly sorry he’s going to jail.

There seems to be some recurring thievery going on around town as the papers do attest.

Be watchful and mindful of your neighbours.

no kidding. This quiet little town has some definite toxicity brewing.

Rumours are spreading quickly of "Heroin Houses" and "Crack cottages", one in particular right in the middle of town judging by the sketchy characters and increase of OPP presence in particular driveways. And with drugs comes thefts.

While it's the OPP's job to clean-out the rif-raff, its also the concern and obligation of the towns'people to be anonymous informants to the OPP if they want to assist in keeping their town clean and free of hard-drug abuse and other related crimes.

These types of drug-houses create serious hazards in a small community when allowed to escalate. Overdoses, guns, domestic violence, child-neglect, thefts, house fires, assaults, driving while impaired, car accidents, home invasions, robberies, and poor community and public image are just a few of the things we'll all suffer from if this continues.

Let's all help to maintain our community as the peaceful Sprucedale it is.

CrimeStoppers: 1(800)222-TIPS (8477)
OPP: 1(888)310-1122
Emergency: 911

I can't believe that someone has finally learned there are problems with behavior in Sprucedale. This has been going on forever, but if anyone complained ,they found themselves ostracized for trying to keep things safe and peacefull. The police can only do so much, the town residents also have to be very vigilant. Most of the people are seniors and don't want to get involved, the rest don't care. if you are not willing to help, then you are part of the problem.

I know it is hard to believe but Sprucedale has been a place for a lot of years where many things have happened that go against the grain of law abiding citizens. The police can only do so much to protect the community, some of the onus must fall on the neighbours to look out for each other. It is not only the teenagers that are the problem as the last message implies, if you are really concerned and look around there are a lot of things that could be done to help make things safer. There are many seniors in the vicinity that could use help, they are not going to put themselves in harms way by telling what they know or see.A good question is what happened to neighbourhood watch? The signs are at every entrance to the village.Where do you think the impaired drivers come from??? Probably the Hotel that is touted as the best thing since sliced bread. Some things never change. Or do they????

blame and responsibility

All towns suffer from crime, so no, it isnt 'hard to believe' Sprucedale does. The difference is there's been a recent escalation.

Im not sure how the last massage, nor any of the messages above are blaming the teenagers. This is the first time I've seen 'teenagers'in this thread. However, few will deny that teens are in fact children, and remain the responsibility of their parents. Society's youth are encountering more and more challenges and negative influences nowadays, and the parents need to keep up.

I agree about neighbourhood watch. Its not about 'ratting out' the bad guys, it's about public awareness, public responsibility, and perhaps a bit of piece of mind and empowerment for those (like seniors for instance) who may be feeling helpless and hopeless.

Im not sure I agree that the impaired drivers are coming from 'thehotel'. If this was evident, the hotel would have been shut down many many times, resulting in permanent closure. The 'best thing since sliced bread' is 24 beers for $24 at the beerstore...not 24 beers for $108 at the hotel. Personally, I think the impaired drivers come from Hell. And the gate-fare is cheaper in your own living room (lol). With all this said, I question why there isn't more enforcement, specifically OPP Ride Programs.

All things can and do change. But not without action and vigilence on the part of citizens and the police. It's dismaying that the police havn't gotten more involved in our community, but it behooves us to gather their attention.

It's incredible what can go on in little sleepy villages!

This is the first exciting thing I've heard about Sprucedale. Who would have thought this is going on in this boring community. Amazing.
