I recently wrote a paper on Frederick Gale. I have a transcription of the diary used on the farm on which Fred worked when he first came to Canada in Colchester South Township, Essex County. Some general information abut him: born in Leicester, England to William Gale and Margarett Lyman, Fred was sent to the farm of Alfred Arner in 1907 where he worked for at least two years before eventually moving to nearby Pelee Island and getting married in 1913 to Sarah Edith Phipps, daughter of Charles Edward Phipps and Emma Elizabeth Phipps. In 1916, he enlisted with the 205th Battalion in Hamilton and died in 1950. The Harrow Early Immigrant Research Society (HEIRS) has a couple pictures of him, one as a child and one in his military outfit. |
