Thanks Geoff for you research it has been most helpful. I did have some facts but Thomas Prouds age on the 1871 census threw me. you have just confirmed that I was looking at the right Proud family. Yesterday I found the 1891 census results which showed the family in Middlesbrough with 2 children Annie( my Grandmother and James). I had no Knowledge of Mary Parker being Annies mother so you have shed light on thet mystery and the generations before her.
These people seem to be coming to life for me and my imagination runs wild on what life must have been like for them. I am a recent member of the Rydale Family History Group. Many thanks, regards Lynn.
It would seem the Thomas Proud I was looking for was born in 1859 was the son of Ann Proud (singlewoman)D of Ralph Proud and Ann Garvan. I have been able to trace Ann (his mother) who later married Jeremiah Best and they moved to Middlesbrough. I have traced Thomas from the 1881 Census you were right he was in Guisbrough. I can't trace any sign of Thomas from the 1871 census and he dosen't seem to be living with his mother. My sources are
1881 census RG11/4844 folio 65 pg 21. He lived in Morton Grange Guisbrough.
KMS CD'S of parish register marriages 1885 says Thomas Proud aged 25 labourer of KMS(son of Ann Proud singlewoman) to Mary Parker (d of Samuel Parker) witnesses Mary Leng and James Leng.
I know that Mary Parker was my great grandmother but I would like to know where Thomas lived in the first years of his life. I can't locate him with relatives. I'm hoping you or anyone else may be able to help. thanks Lynn

Will Calendar: for Jeremiah: Probate London 1.5.1928 granted to Wm Williamson (the Elder) farmer and John William Tanfield, blacksmith. Effects £1,085 18s 1d.
Mary and William were my great great grandparents on my mum's side and i am looking for any information on their early life before moving closer to Ayton and Middlesbrough. Thanks
