From Annette Morton, Stafford, England.
During research of my family connections with the Kirbymoorside area, I came across people with the name Leng.
I have just discovered this genealogy site, & noticed your search. it's a few years since you posted your quest, but I thought this note worth a try.
My own research concerns the Reads of Pockley. The 1851 census shows Elizabeth Leng, & her husband John Leng,(master mariner)living with Jane Read(farmer of 108 acres, at Pockley. Elizabeth was a Read.
You may know of this already, or have long ceased your search. I have only been resaerching for 3 months - it's a fascinating process!
Annette, (nee Read)
Hi, Annette. You responded to a message from Peter HARRISON re the above, and I just wanted to give you more information about John & Elizabeth (née READ)if you are still interested.
John LENG was baptised in Sneaton, near Whitby, on 26 Jul 1801, the son of John LENG and Jane PARNABY, who had married there in Feb 1798.
John married Elizabeth READ in Helmsley in Feb 1829. The marriage bond is dated 18 Feb. As you know, John was a master mariner, and often away. The couple seem not to have had any children, or at least none survived.
Elizabeth died in Whitby aged 71, on 17 Feb 1879. She and John then lived at 11 Esplanade. John lived on to the age of 90, dying on 13 Jan 1892.
I hope this may be of interest. If you would like more on the LENG family, dopn't hesitate to get in touch.
