Future of Rang, Leicester

October 15 2002 at 11:01 PM

Hi hope ur all well, just though i'd send this message cos I been asked many times as to whether or not Rang in Leicester is coming to an end.

The answer is no, Rang will still happen but I will no longer be part of the organising or be the DJ. This is due to the fact that unlike Saathi and Kali, Rang was never an independent night but organised through a men's sexual health project called TRADE.

This did have an effect on the way myself and Riaze Osman (former asian project worker @ TRADE) ran the project). The fact that the organisation didn't fully recognise the needs of gay asian people which meant there was a constant battle to get the voices of the community heard and also TRADE were very keen to make major decisions on our behalf without consulting a single gay asian person.

Despite constant problems with TRADE, between the two of us (myself and Riaze) in the past 12 months, we did make a rang a big success and helped create a stronger, more confident gay asian community in Leicester (which we are proud of).

Please note that the next rang will be on October 25th and the following Rang will not be until January 31st 2003.

Take care,

LOVE YA ALL
