Your Newham, Your Say
If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or a member of the transgender community and live in Newham, then the council wants to hear from you.
As part of its work consulting with local people, the council is now targeting the estimated 20,500 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the borough asking them to take part in interviews, attend focus groups and fill in questionnaires. The aim is to find out what services they need and want from the council and whether they feel they have equal access to jobs within the council.
The consultation process, taking place this autumn, is building on work carried out last year and it hopes to end the "invisibility" of certain sectors of the community.
Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham said: "This consultation forms part of our commitment to ensure that all sectors of the community have access to services and jobs within the council. Engaging everyone, including those who are not often heard, is one of my priorities and is vital if we really do want to create a place where people choose to live and work."
Paul Barlow is carrying out the research on behalf of the council. If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, live in the borough and want to get involved you can contact Paul at paulbarlow@dsl.pipex.com or through the forum on www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/215514.
