Sounds like you are close to the situation. Lipscomb University beat Auburn on the road. Beat LSU twice on the road. Pitt lost to Vanderbilt in the ninth, 4-3 and Coastal Carolina in its first game of the year. Virgina Tech ("joke in the league') also beat Georgia Tech 2x this season.
Notre Dame also beat Nebraska big. As i looked at Pitt's lineup yesterday, they started 6 freshmen/sophomores. If it is true that they only have 8 scholarships, that leaves them 3.7 short, which is a lot of money to spend on at least 4-5 more players. I would find it hard to beleive that the majority of the teams that they play are not fully funded. That, my friend, is a BIG disadvantage.
BTW, Pitt's on average RPI is in the 100-120 range.
