Like or Dislike the Coach's, the teams gelling now!

by lovePSU (no login)

I have read a lot about the Wine and the rest of his coaching staff. I was never really sure why there was so much negetivity about him, (only his third season and second recruiting class) but you have to respect the way the team has performed as of late.

It is easy to see why some would have been upset after the less than stellar start to the season, something like 2-13, but the team has progressed very well. I think that is a tribute to the coaching staff. This team has consistently improved every week. Thats not to say that a really good pitcher doesn't give our batters fits, (they tend to give all batters fits). But, we have found ways to work around the best the others can throw at us. I have noticed each player improving each passing week. They are learning and growing, ISN'T THAT WHAT COACH'S ARE SUPPOSE TO DO WITH THEIR TEAMS?!?

This team is peaking at the right time. I hope they can continue during the upcoming weeks. Early on, many didn't think we would make it to the B-10 tourney. Now we have a legitimate (although tough) shot at ending the season as the number two team in the B-10(and possibly could have been #1 had Mich & Minn played, but thats water under the bridge). Number 2 earns us a buy in the first round of the tourney, that would be huge!!! But no matter what the outcome for the rest of the season, these guys can hold their heads high (players and coach's). But, when you look at the make up, and the attitude of the entire team & staff, nothing less than winning the tourney will satisfy them. They believe, no, they KNOW they can win it! They know it won't be easy, and will have to fight all the way to the end, but, I for one, think they will prevail. It's an ENTIRE TEAM ATTITUDE, and it looks like they have it.
Good luck PSU. Get Ohio State and then.....HAVE FUN!!!

Why Posts are Deleted

by Forum Owner (Login karismatique)

I have no idea who posts at this forum. I must use clues to determine if any post is irregular. In an attempt to maintain an open forum, I will not allow multiple names from one IP address. I will not allow anyone to pretend to be someone they are not. That, my friend, is identity theft.

The posts refered to in your statement were deleted because multiple posts and names came from the same IP address. One used a name of a player, yet had a bogus email address. I would assume in the remote chance that a PSU player posted here, he would be of character to secure a Network54 ID or at least use a valid email address.

For those reasons, I felt the posts from that IP address had to be deleted.

I find it offensive that you or anyone else would suggest that positive posts are eliminated here to create a slanted negative presentation. This is a freedom of speech forum for the most part and I will delete posts when I feel that someone is disruptive, dishonest, vulgar or a spammer. For the most part, people are respectable here and their opinions welcome.

The PSU apologists likely won't. Our guys have done a good job this weekend but do you think anybody who is a Happy Jack will come here and tout the team? No, they will lay and wait for a message to complain about. Some times I hate all arrogant PSU fans called the Happy Jacks. Let them start a positive roll.

Beatin' the Bucks!!

by PSULION28 (no login)

Woke up this morning and read about a 3-2 win in the bottom of the 10th....damn it's great to beat the Buckeyes! Read that they need 1 win to get into the playoffs....don't let it happen! Give them a long bus ride home!

All those games back before the conference opener...all those losses....looks like these guys are starting to pull it together when it counts. Just hope these guys don't get screwed by the NCAA selection committee like the '95 Big Ten regular season champs did (yep...still a little bitter) OR they can take it out of the committee's hands and go out and wing the Big Ten tourney!!

Keep it up guys and good luck the rest of the way!!

Seriously, this guy calls himself a Penn State fan and yet he's always saying how the team is terrible and they're not good enough to beat a certain team and whatever else. This team can set the school record for most Big Ten wins in a season with two more in their last three this weekend. Can anyone, except for a few posters here and there, put away their personal dislike for this coaching staff and give this team some credit for once?

Baseball Signs JUCO Pitcher T.J. Macy

by The Truth (no login)

Is it dangerous to mortgage the future with Jucos? This guy seems like an important part of the recruiting class...however being that he was drafted last year and he had a good year he most likely will be drafted again.

Does anyone know how the incoming freshmen class looks?

Re: No Idea Who Is Coming In

by lovePSU (no login)

From what i hear, the freshman class looks pretty good with a catcher from Norht Carolina, outfielder from Georgia, i believe some pitchers from our area to name a few. A couple of proven Juco's each year is not a bad way to augment your freshman class each year, especially for us "up north" teams.
With any high recruit, you stand a chance loosing a recruit to the draft, but hopefully the coach's have a good feel for the how the kid is leaning. Our Juco's this year have had a very positive impact. Deese, has been very good, and getting better as our daily third baseman. Stobart is putting a lot of innings as our 3rd starter (and with Wynner and Gaf not throwing, he's much needed and appreciated). He has a ways to go, but has been contributing in a very positive manner. O'Neil has been awsome in the closing spot, and I believe he is a Redshirt Sophmore, so he still has 2 more seasons of eligability.

Re: Lookin' Good

We did play Minnie. Rain-shortened weekend. PSU went 1-2 against the current #2 team in the B10. Wished they had played the 4th game and we had split. We'd own 3rd place in the B10 by ourselves. Right now the impt thing is to get into the B10 tourney. Anything can happen from there. That's all you can ask. Pitching will be imperative and it looks more and more like a freshman (Karr) will be called on to pitch Sunday games. Great HS career and a 4.05 ERA in college games.

could easily be #2

by lovePSU (no login)

Well, you say we would be in the bottom half of the six in the tourney. That may very well be where we end up, but, realistically, we could be number two. I don't think we have the team to beat Michigan, but the others....It depends on if the bats get hot and stay hot. We will no doubt see good pitching, and as always, that slows down the bats. We did very well against Minn, in fact almost took 2 or three, and who knows what would have happened if we played the forth. Our pitching has been solid, although slim at the starting spot. If Gaff is ready, that will obviously help big time. The pen has been doing a stellar job, keeping us in games that last year we would have lost. Hawkins is good for a couple of innings, as is Ogrodnick. And so far, O'Neil has been lights out. Stobart has been questionable, but seems to keep his composure and has worked out of a lot of jams. I saw on another post, Karr for game 4. Not sure I would go there just yet, I still like my chances with Amato, but be ready to go to the pen quick if he gets into trouble.
But hot bats will give the starters some breathing room.
We really need 3 of 4 this weekend.

Re: could easily be #2

by Batupa (no login)

Lovepsu,
I think you are right with the bats--they need to have a BIG weekend. They were hot and cooled off a little during Indy series. Came on at the end a little though. Starters need a cushion for some breathing room during this upcoming weekend series. The first 3 games are critical as another poster suggested. We need to be up 3-0. (Stobart's start always scare me too!!)

As for starters--I've seen all of Amato I need as a starter. He LOOKS so good, then fails to produce. I'm sure he's trying, but it's not in the cards for him to be a starter. He struggles to find the zone--even from the pen a lot. I'm inclined to go with Karr, even tho he's a freshman--GIANT step up. If he gets in trouble, go to the pen--in fact if I were Wine, I'd expect it from a freshman with that much pressure on him. Amato, O'grod, Hawkins etc will be waiting. Hey, if he gives you 3-4 good innings that might be enough--let the pen take over from there. Anything more than that from a freshman as a new starter this late in the season--MY HATS OFF TO THE KID!!! I'm not totally comfy with this, but for now it might be our only answer. If the guy keeps it under 5 runs in 2 innings, it will be better than Amato. Amato has proven time and again he's not the answer. I pulled for him to be the #4, but have since changed my mind. Like another poster said, I'll leave this one up to the coaches and hope they make the right choice based on practices and other intangibles.

Bottom line--I just want them to get into the tourney. Open field from there, but you gotta get there first.

I did see that the club team actually gets decent press in the Collegian and that they are tearing it up, but also understand that this is the Club team and most, if not all the talent on the club team, wouldn't crack PSU's starting lineup. To say they wouldn't make the team....I don't know about that....walkons have proved too many people wrong.

I'll go out on a limb and say PSU Club team has the best home field of any club team in the country!

with the exception of Bump, none went anywhere and BUMP is history now. that tells the story. If you get a degree from PSU and think 1400 a month is good pay post-college in the minors, you are a total loser. And we have had plenty of them. We may admire their play but the CLUB BOYS are far more successful in life. Far more and we know

How can you say that? The only thing I am comparing is baseball ability. Fact the varsity team has more ability than the club team. I would bet if you offered the club boys a chance to play varsity they would, and if you gave them the chance to play past college they would jump at the chance.

I heard that in the search for the new womens hoops coach, the search committe was told not to consider absolutely a-n-y-b-o-d-y associated in any way to Rene Portland. Guess what happened? It became a legitimate search and nobody's friends were hired, and nobody poisoned with The Penn State Way, etc. I kinda thought they tried to do that when hiring a baseball coach. I notice that Penn State doesn't hire head coaches for anything. Always an assistant and then tries to make them into a head coach. Some coaches are better suited to be assistant for life.

I posted this on the 16 -i deferred

by Anonymous (no login)

Well a lot of talk was thrown around about how much better MSU was than PSU and their record was testimonial enough about how great their coaching is vs PSU's. Can't really say I know a whole lot about their coach, (or really even about ours) but after this week end, I'd say we didn't stack up all that poorly against them. As I have been saying all along, give Wine a chance. Are we a powerhouse? no way! Can we compete in the B10, absolutely, no question about it!
Minnesota, one of the consistently better programs in the B10 SQUEAKED by taking two of three. Iowa, a major dissapointment in dismall conditions. MSU (second in the B10 coming into this weekend) we take three of four. We have a lot to work on, but if pitching can hold up, and hitting continues to come around as they did this weekend, then I really like our chances.
GO PSU!!!
