Hi, Korror,
Thanks for replying.
Your answer made me realize I hadn't really thought through the implications of BG being so closely derived form D&D rules (I never played any of the RL D&D-type of "games"), where the combat is actually rigidly divided into turns. Since the rounds are pretty much 'hidden' in BG I had forgotten that.
I think I can see an instance where weapon speed could make a difference, e.g., if you were using a slow weapon and only had a couple of hit points left, and your opponent was wielding a faster weapon, couldn't he kill you before you had a chance to get in a return attack? However, I think you're right, most of the time in the BG series, weapon speed probably isn't as great a factor as in some other games.
In the particular instance of my team, I was referring just to plain swords (this is a very young team, remember). I had gotten a 2-hand sword as booty, and at first I was just going to sell it, then I got to idly wondering if there was some reason I should start using it in place of the long/bastard swords I was using.
Thanks again.
Looks like people have gotten out of the habit of checking this board frequently, doesn't it?
Regards,
Dako-ta
