Try a multiclassed demihuman.
Seriously. Humans suck. They have no noticeable advantages, other then dual classing. Elves are quite sturdy, good shots with a bow, and, resist sleep and charm quite well. I don't think I need to remind you of the Siren fight....
Gnomes are very magic resistant. A fighter mage or a mage thief should serve you well. Thief skills are needed, but, so are fighter skills. Most of the best potions in the game are fighter only.
Elves or half elves as a fighter mage thief rock. They can use neary any item, any potion, can handle almost any situation. But they can be very slow to level. Easy to fix. Go to the Basilisk map and follow that silly Korax around. You get several thousand exp for about 5 minutes of work. Just be careful. You will be very very weak. Thaco will be piss poor for a while, hit points will be lousy. Once you hit about fighter level 3, thief level 4, and mage level 2 ish (Yes, your levels will be scattered like that) and have decent stealth, SNIPE! I can not stress this enough. Go into shadows. Shoot somebody with an arrow of biting. If they do not die outright, run away, hide a bit, go back into stealth, and slowly creep back. As a solo char, fights will never be won by rushing in. Always have an escape route. And by gosh, beware of the Bandit Camp. If you have a few wands of fireballs, it's not to bad, but, as a solo char, you will get pumped so full of arrows that it is not funny. |
