Hello. I apologize for the delay, but I hope this information is still useful. Yes, it really does something. I warn you now, for this information listed below is considered a spoiler:
If you solve the puzzle (you can do this with only one character), the other room will have a statue with a hammer that is down while the other statues will have hammers that are up. Click on the statue with the hammer that is down then return to the secret room. You will then be able to use a stairway, which will take you to the next place.
