Response to <sigh> I'm back with Part 3 ;)

1) Just out of idle curiosity, what is the upper roll limit in the character creation screen?

I've actually rolled as high as 95 or 96. (It was an accidental first roll - I was just screwing around - but I took it and made it into a character anyway. The maximum should be a perfect score for whatever race/class you're rolling, and the minimum should be rolling perfect crap. Whether the game can do either I don't know for sure. It is much more common to roll between 60 and 80-something points.

2) How limited are healing potions?

Well, I've rarely have anything but a surplus of them, except early on. Then again, I avoid drinking like the plague. So, I'm not really sure. Some vendors do have a limited supply, but I dunno if any have an unlimited supply.

This concerns me especially for a solo char, such as a fighter-mage-thief, who would have little innate healing ability (I assume all avatar characters get the 'Lay on Hands' ability at some point in the game - maybe not true?). On the other hand, since you only have to heal one char, maybe there is even more to go around. Comments?

The Heal special ability has to do with your alignment. Bhaalspawn of different alignments get different abilities.

When my Gnomish Illusionist soloed he was Good and basically just slept a lot. He also paid to be healed at Temples when the damage was very severe. (Only one person to spend money on. Had excess.

3) The same question in regard to magical projectiles, to what extent are they limited?

No idea. I'm more a mage than I am an archer, and sling bullets don't come much more interesting than +1 and +2 - which I never ran out of. I typically rationed out the good bullets for use on nasty things and just flung the basic bullets at everything else.

4) Crossbows and thieves - what gives? ... Imoen, at least, can use Light Crossbows, but not Heavy Crossbows. :p

Well, it looks like Thieves are restricted from using Heavy Crossbows but are allowed to use Light Crossbows. Makes sense, really. A Thief has no business toting around such heavy artillery. Except to sell, of course.

So far, the only magical short bow I've come across in the game is short bow +1. Is there a better bow that Imoen can use somewhere along the way?

I think there's one late game that's semi-interesting. Use what works best now, though. You'll come across it eventually and Imoen will still have the proficiency point to use it, if you desire.

5) More on the Cloak of the wolf - thanks to the tip (from Doc, IIRC) I was able to invoke it. But, my char couldn't seem to change back to human form. The description of the item says 'change at will.' But elsewhere it mentions some kind of problem with the cloak. So, how does this work? Can you only change back once per day, while sleeping, or something?

I remember that problem, too. I think it eventually wore off. Or maybe re-invoking it will change you back? I think I may have just reloaded my game after becoming frustrated with it.

6) I have BG ver. 1.1.4315; & ToSC ver. 1.3.5512, plus I've added the patch for DX 8. As far as I can tell, those are the latest versions. Correct or not?

If it's the latest from the company website, yes. There's also a Baldurdash bugfix pack you can download. Try a search on it.

2) I can't get the Quick Load to work. The ToSC manual says there has been a Quick Load feature added; the original manual says use Control-L, while the readme file says that won't work, change it to something else with the configure utility. I've tried several things, and can't get any keys to invoke this. Has anyone else gotten this to work?

Never tried it. Or heard of it.

3) Hmmm, maybe a touchy subject, but I also can't get the cheat console to work. I can't help but wonder if it wasn't disabled in later distributions. I don't need it for just playing the game, not very many battles so far have been actually hard, but I did kinda want to see the exploding cows and herds of killer chickens, at least once.

Shouldn't be disabled. I'd recommend reading up on it online. I've never used it, so I can't be much help there.
