It makes you easier to track down when you screw up. But seriously, I, for one, prefer to hear about you as opposed to your avatar, since you are the person we will be interacting with. And hell, it's just polite to introduce yourself to a new group of people.

In case you weren't aware of it, this (roughly) identifies your physical location. If you are two different people, you live close enough to know each other. And I expect to see a damn good explanation of why you both happened to show up at the same time.

If you are the same person, fess up now and you might come out of this with some credibility intact. I say might because, to make a long story short, our one and only case of banning resulted from an individual posting under one name, making a complete ass of himself, coming back, and proceeding to do the same thing under a new name. Like most boards, we don't approve of posting under multiple identities (you can post under different names all you want, as long as you own up to them) and this has incident has left us with a near pathological aversion to that type of behavior.

But, like I said, having the guts to say 'I panicked, I thought I was making a bad impression and I tried to fix it. I'm sorry.' might earn you some Brownie points. Who knows?
