Maybe I'm missing the point...

But why, exactly, is that so horrible? Especially since I half remember hearing about a study where children given a video game where they got to zap cancer cells actually had better rates of recovery? Not to go all psychoanalyst on this, but given that one's state of mind can have a dramatic effect on your physical state and that there has to be a great deal of frustration involved in suffering from an illness that you can't directly fight, what's wrong with giving them an outlet? And at least they're actually people who've actually been in that situation for ideas.
