Fundraiser for traveling wrestlers

by (no login)

Stop by the NWI table at the USA State tournament this weekend, as we will have information available for those wrestlers who will compete and would like to lessen their financial burden for trips to Disney Duals, Fargo and other regional and national wrestling tournaments this summer.

We'll announce information at the meet and have info available at the table, so stop by and see Kevin or Mike.

State Freestlye Anybody Know ?

by West Nebraska Wrestlers (no login)

It looks like there will not be any or few quality chances to wrestle F/S because most clubs moved to Huskerland and that was the source of Pairers and Officals . We have a ton of opportunities to wrestle F/S and Greco in Wyoming and Colorado and train our refs.

Will there be a State F/S ?

How do we quailfy for State ?

Can we join Wyoming and Wrestle for Team Wyoming ?

I know how you feel!

by Anonymous (no login)

Yes there will be a F/S & Greco State. It is in Kearney, at the High School, May 1,2. Just Saturday and Sunday this year. You may have seen a link to more tournment information on the homepage. Looks like they are runnin it different than ever before.

I am sure you could wrestle in tournments anywhere in the nation if you wanted, but as far as actually joining a wyoming club, attending thier state, and qualifyin for regionals there, I do not know.

Kimball and possibly alliance are the only freestyle opprotunties here in western panhandle. It is strange to me that these clubs want to not wrestle USA, because USA sactions folkstyle wrestling. Or does nobody know that?? ANother thing, why would a club have a folkstyle tourney after usa state folkstyle, which is a necessary qualifier for usa folckstyle nationals.

Where in Wyoming or Colorado can I go to officiate F/S tournments? I am curious!

I feel your frustration.

Some answers

by West Nebraska Wrestlers (no login)

Huskerland is cheap and don't require cards but has no place for H/S wrestlers to compete .That would be ok but Huskerland goes in to the freestyle season that starts the week after State H/S . Huskerland state is not till a couple of weeks before state USA State F/S Greco .USA State Folk Style is the end of March in the midst of Freestyle season .

Huskerland is a great opportunity for kids wrestling but leaves no place for kids or H/S age kids to hone skills and compete at freestyle .It needs to end it's folkstyle in February . Then go to a freestyle season for all ages USA or Huskerland .

Clubs around here are going Huskerland and finishing their seasons at Huskerland State because it's cheap . Now that they have transitioned to Huskerland they have no interest in paying the 25.00 per wrestler and 25.00 for a Coachs card ( probally Dad ) plus 50.00 for a Copper card to wrestle for 30 days with no tournemants , nor do they want to pay the extra money out for one USA State Folkstyle Tourney .

Teams are reluctant to schedule a F/S tourney because without the little kids numbers it won't draw enough to pay out . Soccer starts in April with Baseball in mid May . We loose all of our young wrestlers when soccer starts up .

These things are then lost that where developed thru the USA program .

F/S Pairers

F/S Refs of National quailty and knowledge

Kids exposed to F/S & Greco (our club of 80 to 90 wrestlers has 5 that might go to F/S State this year and they are ones that wrestled when we had Freestyle available )

No opportunities for H/S wresters to wrestle in this area after season without traveling many hours .

Support $ for H/S Wrestlers for National Teams .

AAU has been destroyed now USA ?

It is a simple scheduling problem . A State wide calender was proposed several years ago that would provide for wrestling opportunities for all ages styles and ability that would separate our large tourneys .

Huskerland States date must be moved back and they must either get involed in a freestyle season for all age groups with a true State F/S and Greco Championship or get out of the way so USA can do it .

If we go with Huskerland we could remove the state qualifing from our Nebraska USA National requirements and let anyone go that these events that wanted to .

Just some observations !

Good Luck To You - You Mean Well

by Western Wrestlers (no login)

There are a lot of great people working on these issues but we can't seem to get it done . This has been boiling for years and is no ones fault we just need someone to step up and make the hard decisions to make Nebraska Wrestling beter for the kids . With out Huskerland support the USA meeting will not solve anything .

Huskerland should change their schedule to a two style season and take over the role that USA has filed in the past .

I may be looking at this all wrong , but the combination of Freestyle , Greco , and Folkstyle has made my kid the wrestler he is today . He looks forward to his Folkstyle season . When Freestyle season rolls along he wants nothing to do with Folkstyle and looks at Freestyle as a new sport . It energizes him to continue wrestling thru the spring .

national travels

by liv2ref (no login)

The thing I do not understand is the fact that Cheap Huskerland does not allow you to travel to tournments outside of Nebraska, hence the name. Why do wrestlers and coaches not want to travel to regional and national tournments to challenge the level of wrestling?? People need to understand it is the fact that USA is a national organization. That is why fees are so high, but look at the benefits. I am sorry to see Nebraska wrestlers have to settle for only a state championship. I am glad that USAW was intact when I wrestled and I have wrestled kids from all over this great nation. I do not see a point to pay fees to be a nationally certified mat offical, just to waste my time on huskerland. I know where my heart is set, that is on national tournments, I wish Nebraska would wake up!!

Re: Good Luck To You - You Mean Well

The executive boards on USA, AAU, and Huskerland are working together to come up with a solution to a more affordable system. It just takes time to work things out. USA will be making a proposal to AAU and Huskerland for the next season. Hopefully we can work things out before it's too late and we lose too many kids that drop out of freestyle. If we do lose the kids, it will be hard to get them back into freestyle.

I agree with everyone else about how much freestyle helps your folkstyle. I saw a major difference in my own kids when they started freestyle.

Suspense Dates for Northern Plains Regionals

by C Sherer (no login)

The deadline for registrations for Northern Plains Regionals is fast approaching. The registration date was ommitted from the entry form. After talkling with the tournament director, I need to have all entries of anyone interested in attending Northern Plains Regionals by May 29, 2003. I have to have all entries to Northern Plains by June 1, 2003. I will need, entry form, registration fees, and a copy of your USA card.

The dead-line for clothing packages was May 16, 2003, however, I might be able to squeeze in a few late orders.

I also need registration forms and entry fees for any cadets that are wrestling in Northern Plains that have signed up for the National Cadet Duals in Greeley. These are separate events and require separate entry/registrations.

Make Checks payable to USA wrestling and forward all registrations to Charles Sherer, 3501 88th Street, Columbus, Nebraska 68601.

Call/e-mail me if you have any questions.
