As a direct descendent of the Seabrooks of Dungarvan, I was most distressed to discover the sad - and infuriating - news featured on your website. My g-g-grandmother was Camilla Seabrook Dorsey, the daughter of John Seabrook who owned Dungarvan prior to its ownership by Edward Garland Sydnor. My g-grandfather was Camilla's son Edward Garland Dorsey - is there a relationship to Edward Garland Sydnor, of which I am unaware? Was he possibly a Seabrook descendent or relative?
Since there are over 100 documented graves on this property, it is obvious that these private family cemeteries were in operation for many years. I wonder if it is not possible that the Seabrook family maintained a family cemetery here initially, and the desecration such a family cemetery - very likely MY family's cemetery - in such a disrespectful manner is very distressing to me.
Thank you for doing what you can to keep this issue in the public eye. It might be well to post information concerning this disgraceful occurance on the Seabrook forum of the GenForum website...I am sure that other descendents of this family will also be distressed to learn of this disgraceful action, and the unfortunate lack of appropriate state laws to prevent such occurances.
I do not live in Virginia, but hope that her laws will be changed to reflect more respect for her history and those deceased Virginians of long ago who lie unheralded and forgotten beneath her soil.

I am not certain if any Seabrooks are/were buried at this site. It is not out of the question. The first mention of the graveyards, however, is in the deed/transfer of land from Sydnor. You can view a copy of that deed on this website. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me directly at whoucisme@mindspring.com
Thanks,
