Hi, I just bought some colostrum 500 mg in powdered form and I wanna know how much I should be taking. Here are the supplement facts.

Bovine colostrum - 1,000 mg
------------
bovine colostrum profile:

immunoglobulin - 20%

Lactoferin - 14.0 mg/g

IGF-1 - 1.152-2.1ppm

So my question is...

How much does 1.152-2.1ppm equal in mg for IGF-1? Thank you.

Ppm means parts per million.

Therefore there is 1.2 - 2.1 mg per 1 000 000 mg

Therefore for 1000 mg of Colostrum that you take,

There is 1.2 / 1000 up to 2.1 / 1000 of colostrum.

That equates to 0.0012 mg up to 0.0021 mg of IGF-1 for every 1000 mg of Colostrum that you take.. Average value is 0.0017mg.

QUESTION : IS THIS AMT SIGNIFICANT?

A male body in later stage of puberty has plasma IGF concentration 160-609 ng/ML. Average value is 769ng/ML. A normal person has 5 litres of blood? Therefore, 3845000 Nanograms of IGF-1 is present naturally.

1 milligram = 1 000 000 nanogram
0.0017 milligrams = 1650 nanograms

Therefore, 1659 / 3845000 x 100% = 0.0431 % increase in serum IGF-1.
is this significant? Of course not.

That is why in clinical trials up to 10 grams, or 10 000 mg of colostrum is used everyday.

This means 0.43% rise in IGF-1. Significant? Still no.

Comparatively GH releasers can release 500% more GH, resulting in a corresponding increase in IGF-1.

However, in some people the mechanism is spoilt.

If the mechanism is spoilt, these are the possible scenerios

(1) GHRH when put into receptors do not cause secretion of GH.

If this is the case, GH secratagogues will NOT work.

(2) GHRH is not sufficient. Ie. Not enough GHRH

If this is the case, GH releaser will work.

(3) GH does not convert to IGF-1

A level of growth is possible, but perhaps not that much. If this is the case we have to supplement IGF-1.

By giving GH, the doctor does not solve the problem at all.
