So it's a few days late. I've been sick. So sue me.
I remember the last time I went for a cultural victory. It was in epic 11. Horray for Hollywood. And I also remember that of the 20k culture winners, the game that had the fastest completion was a 5CC, rather than the OCC that everyone else adopted.
So here was my plan. I was to build a granary, and then a settler, and let my second city do everything. So I build three warriors, then a granary, then a settler. Two of the jags were used as MP, and the third scouted. I managed to pull barbs out of the first goody hut I popped. Fortunately my scout survived.
The first thing I built was a temple. I honestly can't remember whether I snuck it in before my granary, but I may have done so. It was complete in 2190BC. The next cultural building I built was the colossus, which was completed in 1450 BC.
In this game I gave up on the Pyramids. I did not need, nor want them. They were relatively useless to me. I never ran out of wonders to build, and in my mind, two smaller wonders that give half the culture are greater than one bigger wonder, since the 1000 year cultural bonuses come in that much sooner.
So the next wonder I built was the oracle. It was complete in 730BC. Straight after that I grabbed the great library. That was complete in 30AD.
Meanwhile, in the west, barb camps were springing up all over the place. That was actually a good thing, as I had jags promote to elite, and it was providing me with 25 gold every few turns. This money fueled my research, which was basically straight towards every cultural building/wonder available.
I snuck in a library straight after the great library, and that completed in 130 AD. Next up was the Hanging Gardens. They were completed in 450 AD. They were soon followed by a cathedral (complete in 490 AD). 650AD saw the completion of Coppernicus' Observatory, which was followed in 890 AD by JS Bach's Cathedral. 1060 AD marked the completion of the university of Azteca. Shakespeare's theatre (1220 AD), and Newton's University (1315 AD) were soon to follow. I squeezed in a collosseum in 1340 AD.
Then, to my dismay, I ran out of cultural buildings to build. So I caught up on building a marketplace and a bank. The next wonder to be built was TOE (1480AD), which I timed to finish on exactly the same turn as suffrage was to finish in another city. I'd have liked suffrage to be in my capital, but the timing did not work out correctly. Anyway, this triggered my golden age.
Immediately I started on Hoover, and finished that in 1550 AD. Next up came some minor wonders, and a couple of wars over spies. I built the Intelligence Agency in 1570 AD. By this stage I was leading the research in the game. I would research something, then sell it at monopoly prices to Germany. At one stage I was researching at 100%, and still having more money coming in, and having around 13k gold sitting in the coffers.
I managed to pull one leader out of my warring, which I used to build an army, and get a victory with. The zulu were easy targets
. Funny thing was that I pulled the leader from an elite spearman who I used to kill an enemy cav or infantry or something (after appropriate bombardment).
Wall Street was completed in 1605 AD, followed by Battlefield Medicine in 1630 AD, and the Epic in 1660 AD. I built the military academy in 1690 AD. After that burst of minor wonders, I had to spend the whole of the 1700s researching my way up to the modern age, to get my hands on some of those wonders.
I managed to grab SETI in 1800 AD, and the UN in 1824 AD. My research Lab was completed in 1830 AD. Since I could not get uranium, and there had been some warring on a foreign continent, I spent the next several turns amusing myself poaching an oil source halfway around the world, and then shooting down every single zulu bomber that tried bombing it. I managed to spend over 10 grand rushing buildings in that city
And my final wonder (for my capital), Longevity was completed in 1864 AD.
And with 112 culture per turn, and 13 great wonders in Tenochtitlan the game completed in 1874 AD. My fastest cultural victory ever. I was a bit disappointed reading that both T-Hawk and Sirian beat it though
Sorry for no screenshots, I may put some up later, but at the moment you're all lucky you got any report at all :P.
