Response to Count me in!

One question, if we get the copy before the SG is organized, do we not load even a tiny small, experimental game first?

Virgin status not required. There will be no lifting of skirts for inspections. No locking of players away in the dungeon, chained to the wall and saddled with padlocked chastity belts.

The main point is not for this to be the first-ever only and exclusive game for anybody, but that there be no delay in getting started. Jump Right In Method (TM).

I intend the first SG to play as Humans, since that will be easiest for complete and total MOO NOOBZ to wrap their comfort zone around, until they've met some of the aliens in action. My first solo game will be as Klackons, and I will likely be running that concurrent with the SG. However, the SG will be reported on as it goes, while my solo game won't see the light of day until it has been completed, so regardless of how the games actually play, the SG will be reported on first.

Since we have too many volunteers for one roster, Ozy, I might ask you to run the second game. I'm undecided about using the same start file for both games. Might be better to use different starts just with all the same settings. Or... if like MOO1 you CANNOT do Civ3 style "select which opponents you face" then we might be going up against whole different sets of rivals. That in itself might be worthwhile.

The one thing we might miss is the CF file server for screenshots. I can host my own pics, Cy can host his and maybe some others. Beyond that, I don't know.

  Tourney Mission Statement:
Existing Civ III tournaments, contests and group events are universally plagued by elements or shortcomings that lead often to compartmentalized results. Spoilers and privileged info is readily made available while games are still in progress. The game itself remains in flux through a patching process. The scoring system measures only a few elements of the gameplay. We at Realms Beyond are not satisfied to settle for these conditions and compromises.

The Realms Beyond is home to gamers who go beyond the norm, who creatively add depth to good games to make them better, who choose to set our own added limits to gameplay for the purpose of increasing challenge, varying gameplay flavor, and getting more out of the games we love. We discard the usual standards and venture into realms beyond, where we share our passion for gaming with one another, and with those who are like-minded.

We develop and refine our tournament as we go, with the help of the players. Each game is subject to rules, but we keep the framework light, the emphasis on excellence, the focus on the spirit of the game. Come and play. Share, compare, teach, and learn.
