Ancient war rampage is all about iron. Those who have it vs those who do not will prevail easily. One might even argue that iron is so strong it can unbalance and unhinge the game at times. Your classically executed hoplite pillage-n-park move illustrates the crippling effect of denying iron to an opponent. The GOTM was infamous in its early days for what they called "scout resource denial", parking any unit, especially a scout if expansionist, on top of iron sources even inside enemy borders, without bothering to declare war. They could have their cake and eat it, too. Yet even without that loophole, an iron blockade done the old fashioned legitimate way, as you did here, works wonders.
You ran a superb ancient campaign: well-planned, wholly successful, and even got the leader for your FP, completing your grand triumph!
Those barbarians were interesting!
I'm glad you enjoyed the game and also that you felt free to step outside your comfort zone. You did very well!
