Due to the special nature of Epic Eight, a separate sign-up thread is required. Please post to this thread ONLY for the purpose of signing up for this event. Refer to the Info Thread for details and to post any comments or questions. Thank you.
Starting zip files will be assigned to players based on the order in which their names appear in replies on this thread. You will be obligated to play from the zip file that your place in this thread assigns to you.
The game opens on July 22, but sign ups will remain open until the last week of the game. Apologies in advance to lurkers and shy people, but only those who sign up can play this one. Don't worry, it's a special occasion, not a new trend.
Everybody who leaves their email on the forum has had their start files emailed to them (so let me know if you didn't receive them!).
Sirp, if you don't want to put your email on the forum, you can email me and I'll reply with your start file. If that's not possible, I will put it on the web, but I'd prefer to do it via email.
As Sirian said, to those who didn't sign up, there's still time!
The starting locations are denoted by little crosses on the map, as Sirian said. None of the starting positions are on the two little islands; but it'd be a nice challenge if they were
Yes, I plan on playing this game. I could use a laid-back kind of game after Epic4, and I need to start testing out the new patch as well. So sign me up.
Griselda, you can send the savegame file to MSoracoe@hotmail.com, and, if you have time, could you possibly update the link to my Civ3 page? It's moved to this location: http://www.kalikokottage.com/civ3/sullla/
Thanks.
Depends on how long 6 takes, but I'm looking for a good "get my feet wet" game for 1.29f. 80% chance I will play, which is enough to sign me up for a starting position.
It's been a while since I've played Civ, didn't even know a new patch had been released. But now I'm intrigued (they put a minimap in the editor? Wonder of wonders.). Time to download some patches and try this game out again.
I found this site via the main page on civfanatics.com today, and I like the style here - Ever since Civ I, I found myself talking and listening to details of each game me and my friends would play. Not many games carry that ability, but this certainly does, and although I'm a weakling in Civ terms, I'd like to sign up for Epic 8 and give a go at your tourney!
(btw, sorry for being longwinded, just wanted to give some background )

I've sent you off the "player 20 start file" via email, and of course you're welcome to play without reporting. However, I did want to encourage you to report something if possible, even if it resembles the "executive summary" style rather than the full-detail report. In an Epic like this one, with different start files, your game might end up being significantly different than the others', and we'd love to hear about it!
Civfanatics had a note up last night that they were moving to a different IP block, and that we should expect some trouble connecting until the DNS changes were recognized by our ISP's, usually 1-3 days.
One week left on this game. Thanks to all who signed up, hope everyone is having a good time. If you're reporting your results, Closing Day is next Monday, August 12.
You can play Epic Eight or a variety of other completed Epics by checking the main Epic's page. The scenario file for Epic Eight is available on this page.

Mission Statement:
Existing Civ III tournaments, contests and group events are
universally plagued by elements or shortcomings that lead
often to compartmentalized results. Spoilers and privileged
info is readily made available while games are still in progress.
The game itself remains in flux through a patching process.
The scoring system measures only a few elements of the gameplay.
We at Realms Beyond are not satisfied to settle for these
conditions and compromises.
The Realms Beyond
is home to gamers who go beyond the norm, who creatively
add depth to good games to make them better, who choose
to set our own added limits to gameplay for the purpose
of increasing challenge, varying gameplay flavor, and getting
more out of the games we love. We discard the usual standards
and venture into realms beyond, where we share our passion
for gaming with one another, and with those who are like-minded.
We
develop and refine our tournament as we go, with the help
of the players. Each game is subject to rules, but we keep
the framework light, the emphasis on excellence, the focus
on the spirit of the game. Come and play. Share, compare,
teach, and learn.
