Does anyone know the name of the song played right before the hidden track on the CD? It's driving me mad. It sounds like a great song. Can someone fill me in?

the name of the track before adam's hidden rant on the CD is "Dancer". it's all eric all acoustic. it's from the Bitter End in October of '99. That's about it.

Re: Just before the hidden rant

I think she means that when you get to the hidden track after "Dancer" is finished, you can hear a little bit of a song (whatever they were playing at that show) before Adam starts going, "hold up, hold up" and then goes into his Julio riff. Since Adam's talking about the big payback (and I could never hear it very well in my car's CD player), I guess I always assumed it was a bit of "Payback", but it so isn't. Since I have the CD on hand and am avoiding working, some of what I can make out okay goes like this:
We were both too old
To be thinking about the past
(something something) a reflex
(something something) what I'll sing next
Predictable like a Cyrano
Cynical like a waterflow
These lyrics are not guaranteed accurate, obviously. Does sound cool. Wish I'd gotten in at the first stop on this particular funk train. Must've missed a lot of great music that they're not playing anymore.
Actually the hidden track is part of "Payback" not "Dancer". The little bit of music you hear before Adam starts talking is played when they perform the song in a live show.
I thought it was pretty obvious since he says "...and that is the big payback. There's no such thing as an artist."
Absolutely it is. I know that 100% it IS "Payback". I've seen them perform it live more than once. The whole "there's no such thing as an artist" thing is "the big payback". Trust me, it's from "Payback".
Alright, I'll take your word for it. Or at least pretend that I do. (I've seen it live a couple of times, too, and I can't remember ever hearing anything like that. But I can't remember this morning or last week, either.)

I don't know how long you've been seeing CoRo live, but at least when they played back at the Beanery *sniffle*, Adam used to always launch into a rant or get on a soapbox about SOMEthing, and it was during "Payback." Now this seems to be more during "Savior", even though it's not so much of a rant as it is a series of cover songs, which I'm sure you've seen or heard from the downloadable songs on the site.
Although, I loved at one of the Lion's Den shows (I think the one back in November) when they were playing songs as ideas for the next national anthem (right?), and played Radiohead's "National Anthem" which only my friend, myself and like 2 other people recognized and were able to see the humor. Hah. Hah. Not to mention Adam's dead-on Thom Yorke impression (love that Thom).
Umm, did I just make any sense? I'm tired, so probably not. In fact, if any of this is wrong and I'm a crackhead, kindly let me know.

the big payback

that rap part actually was a part of payback. When they used to play the Bitter End and The Beanery (before the new millenium), they would include the rap section before Adam would start the so called "rant". They've always found some interesting way to play with the middle section of Payback, be it with covers or with a long, always hysterical monologue.
what i wanna know is: when are you guys gonna bring the rap back?!?!?!?

i don't mean to sound hostile or confrontational at all, but trust me on this one, i know what i'm talking about here. the rap was infact, a part of payback. not only was I there, but I was at most of the others preceding it. Its quite possible they incorporated that specific rap section into savior on the west coast at some point, I wouldn't know, being a pretty permanent east coaster; but, as far as the rap on the cd is concerned, its allll payback.
There is no rap on the CD though. Just the Julio Iglesias thing, which IS part of "Payback", yes. Unless that is the "rap" you're referring to (although it's really more of a "rant" rather than "rap")?
I have only ever seen them do ACTUAL rap (like the cover if "Rosa Parks" along with those other covers of Craig David and whatnot) in the middle of "Savior". I don't know if they've ever done any rap in "Payback" in a live show (in place of the "rant" on the CD)... maybe they did! I have no idea. I'm not trying to argue that they haven't... you've seen it, you would know.
The person above asked what the hidden track was part of. It's "Payback". That's all I'm saying - it's part of "Payback". They even say it in the hidden track, so I thought it was pretty obvious.
I really didn't think this would turn into such a complicated thread lol. I'm starting to get confused myself :P We need to get the guys on the board to set things straight! Eric... Adam... help! lol
Ok I am SO stupid! Hahahahaha! I totally didn't read the question right! You wanted to know what the name of the song was BEFORE the hidden track, not the name OF the hidden track... ooooooooooo k lol. It all makes a little more sense now. :P
Ok ya the song before the hidden track is "Dancer". Sorry about that. I'm not usually this clueless... really! I should really stop skimming the posts and actually take time to READ them a little more carefully.
i remember that show with the natioal anthem thing. i felt pretty honored because tossed eric a radiohead mix in order to help guide him through the unsurpassed novelties freakshow which is radiohead. it was a few months before that show so it touched me a little. and yes adam did a very good thom yorke impression. man i love those common rotation boys. definitly the last remaining polar bears shot with rubber bullets.

So tt's called "Dancer". My bad. :P"
Dude no you have it right the first time. She was asking about that bit just before the Julio thing. That much at least we established early on.
And I bow to the superior knowledge of all involved. "Payback" it is. I have never known "Payback" to rock that hardcore but one day with any luck I shall.
During the last 14 Below show I attended they did a NY/Cali song battle ("where we come from" as opposed to "where we are") during Payback instead of Savior. So yes they worked with Payback this time.
I believe the guy who says the rap is part of Payback is right. It would make much more sense since the Julio rant was all about "the big payback" anyways. I think when they came out here they started doing a rap section during Savior instead, but if they were East Coast for so long, I reckon that the person who said the rap is part of Payback is probably right.
It's funny how we argue over these CR songs, eh?
And hey Adam, bring back the rant! I wanna hear it live

This is one of the funniest threads I have read in a long ass time. *snicker*
Ok so just so we have it clear, the original question is "what was the small bit before the Julio rant at the end of Dancer after all the 15 minutes of silence", right?
And the answer is "it is part of when they used to do a rap and a rant during Payback" right?
So if that is true, why don't they bring back said rap and rant? I'd love to hear it
I hope that makes it clear to everyone the original intent and result of said thread. Nomore confused Stefanie. Not a pretty sight *g*
S'alright?
S'alright.
That said, I'm going to Disneyland

yknow what...

anonymous #1 was right...your extra two cents were pretty much not needed.
this is anonymous #2 saying is it also necessary that you have such an excessively long signature?
That people just feel the need to post anonymously to rag on others?
I really don't get it.
And unless you want to reveal who you are I will not answer either of your queries cuz to me anonymous people don't exist.

I actually appreciated the post. It was a long and confusing thread and before I got to TB's summary of it, I was kind of confused. Yeah I got the original question, but when there were so many different answers I wasn't really sure what the right one was. I appreciated havng a post that cleared it up.
Not to mention, this is a free public post, and just because YOU personally don't need something cleared up, doesn't mean noone else does. This is supposed to be a fun place to discuss CR, no a place to jump all ver people because you don't like what they have to say.
And if you don't want to read the long signature, there is this neat little button on your keyboard called "page-down" Noone is forcing you to actually READ the whole thing.
Now see I woulda said something like that had I actually acknowledged said posts. I'm sick of being ragged on by anonymous posters. Just to get a rise outta me I see.
And I like my siggie It fits my character which as we know is completely wacky
See ya soon hun.
