Mike Uhler, Matt Busch in new film.

I just saw a preview of a new film that will be available on DVD and VHS beginning tomorrow. It features Mike Uhler and Matt Busch (Common Ro's manager). "Rising Low" by filmaker Mike Gordon (yes--the same Mike Gordon who plays bass for Phish) is a documentary told with Gordon's off-beat sense of humor about how the band Govt. Mule has rebounded from the tragic loss of their bass player, Allen Woody. Matt Busch is Govt. Mule's tour manager and plays a prominent role in the film, including much interview footage. The film tells the story of how Govt. Mule was able to get 25 of the best bass players (including John Entwistle, Bootsy Collins, Jason Newsted and Stefan Lessard of DMB) to perform in their two volume album. In the segment with Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Common Ro's very own Mike Uhler can be seen playing the TRUMPET! It turns out that Mike is a very well respected studio trumpet player.

he is multi-talented.

very cool about the video/dvd. i'm going to go look for it at blockbuster next time i go.

Govt Mule in Chicago

October 7 2002, 8:28 PM

Govt Mule will be in Chicago October 16th too. My officemate had recently been turned on to them and hadn't told me the name yet. Then, he spilled the beans, and I said "oh!" -- Common Ro connections all over the place.

He is going to their show on the 16th. If anyone is in the Chicago area, they should check out the show. If I wasn't getting back from vacation just then, I would be there too.

Mike Uhler and Gov't Mule.

October 7 2002, 10:35 PM

I got the Gov't Mule record "Off the Deep End" and Mike Uhler plays trumpet with the Mule and Flea on "Down and Out in New York City." A tune I know from James Brown. He sounds great and I'm wondering if he'll play as part of a horn section with Jordan Katz. Can't wait for the new record. It would be great if Matt got Warren to play on a tune. On some of Common's more country numbers. I wonder if a lot of Gov't Mule fans also like Common Rotation. I love 'em both. They should do a tour together. Matt would have to travel less and Mike could play with two bands. Can't wait fr the new record.
