I personally am not wearing a costume on the 26th. Not I think there's anything wrong with it, it does sound like fun, only that I feel it might take away from the music. The band hasn't mentioned dressing up and I don't think they're planning on it. At least they haven't encouraged it in any newzletter. I'm just wearing jeans and showing up. I also wouldn't want to make people who don't frequent the message board and have no idea that people are taking this as a costume kind of thing to feel not welcome. It's not even a halloween party or on halloween. Just my thought. Don't mean to take away anyones thunder, just want to keep things about the music, not about costumes, tv, sarah or the things that go bump in the night.
Just jeans? What about shoes or a shirt? Oh the controversy that'll cause
Im sure it'll be a blast in or out of costume..to bad Im on the wrong coast

Well, I might go for a shirt and shoes as well. Depends on my mood. But seriously, i just fear with everyone coming as some buffy or sarah or horror related costume it'll put the emphasis on other things. Things that have nothing to do with The professor or mike. Things that have nothing to do with the music or the band. It has to do with yourselves and it might be a tad selfish? I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud and I don't want anyone to not express themselves or have silly fun. I just resist anything that takes away from the performance of good songs and I feel dressing as buffy characters or as characters from sarah's films is in poor taste and something the band wouldn't appreciate.

How about costumes band related??
Someone could dress as a man from Minnesota
a drum stick that says "the prof" on it?
possible an orange with a number 28 on it?
Or maybe put on a shirt, tie and sweater and carry a toy microphone?
Its all in the spirit of the season.
Some people enjoy dressing up while others don't.
Nothing wrong with it. Heck I went to my sons Kindergaten last year the day of their mini Halloween parade where the kids were all dressed up. I was among only 5 parents who decided to dress up as well. I had a blast.
Just go..have fun..and ignore all the silly Scooby Doo Characters around you. (hiding from TB, Hacker and all now)*smirk*

I vote we buy Aireale one of those black t-shirts that says "This is as dressed up as I get."
This may be the first time I agree completely with TB but really, it's the 14 Below Halloween show, you should party and have a good time and wear whatever the frick you want.. as long as you don't come nekkid. No Crazy Streaker costumes, okay?
Besides, if anyone's gonna get their ass kicked its gonna be me for attempting to wear a pink dress to a goth club on Halloween.. damn it for the NYC parade and V's concert being scheduled only hours apart!
What no nekkidness ?
Well now that I know that I won't be coming

Hi Aireale - I haven't spoken to ya on this board before. Good to meet ya
First off, it IS their Halloween show, at least according to it's listing.
Secondly, no one is making anyone dress up. Those who want to should, those who don't want to shouldn't. It's pretty simple. I certainly hope I never gave the impression that peeps HAVE to dress up. (Except for Angelic Angela whom I'm desperately trying to convince to dress up as Scooby).
Also.. um, the dig about dressing up as SMG characters/movies... Scooby Doo was around long before SMG became Daphne. But you know, if I were thinner, blonde and in @$$ kicking shape I'd totally go as Buffy. Why? Because she's a character I love and a wicked strong female character. We like that.
Costumes and Halloween are fun and I don't think that dressing up as your favourite character will insult a band just because they have some connection to it. I don't think the bad would be offended by it. They all seem very laid back. I think that the boys wouldn't be who we all love and adore if they were the easily offended type. I mean, think about it, Adam asks us to heckle them!
But anyway..
Who knows what I'm saying. I certainly don't.
Tavern Wench - Hey.. watch it.. you remember the movie Little Monsters? There are things hiding under your bed.. and I'm one of them. smooch
Xanne - Hmm.. nudity at a Common Ro show. That actually might make great headlines for the Weekly World News... and it might prove funny. Howabout you wear a strapless shirt and short shorts.. and a big trench coat tied shut. Show a little leg.. and threaten to flash

Granted, Scooby Doo has been around for years, but you can't honestly say that dressing as either Buffy or Sarah's characters at a Common Rotation show isn't in bad taste. It's a reference to something entirely different then what's in the room. Common Rotation characters, that sounds like a great idea and I think the band should encourage that. That's something I might do myself, show up as Lena. Bring a stair case, keep my foot on it and tell everyone I'm "One Step Up"
I just plead with my fellow music lovers to have some respect for both the audience and the band and be tasteful. I've never once heard Adam mention buffy or do anything buffy on stage at a show outside of a specialized event. I don't think the rest of the band would want to see it at there show.

Not trying to get an attitude with anyone specific but,

I really don't think the guys will give a damn if people dress up or not. People will come as they want no matter what people say anyways. It hasn't happened in a while but I'm tired of people on this board always telling others how to act or dress at shows. Jeez!

Aireale-
Well, I'm meaning no disrespect to Common Ro by dressing up as Velma this Halloween. I'm looking forwarded to it. Since Highschool I've always been something dead. Either a vampire or a zombie-esque person with peeling skin, shrapnel and or cobwebs. This year is a nice diversion. Plus, Scooby is a great group costume.. and it's fun to have a theme. Who knows, maybe next year we'll be The Addams Family or The Munsters.. or maybe Bewitched - but only if I can be an Adult Tabitha.
I really am not interested in getting into the Buffy vs Common Ro debate as I just don't get it. I'm not blonde, but the whole issue is over my head. I don't see it as a big deal.
The way I see it - we dress up as something because it appeals to us. Either vampires, witches, mummies, Republicans or Scooby Doo himself. We dress up for fun. I can promise you that those years I was a vampire, it had nothing to do with Spike or Buffy.
I can see no reason for us to censor ourselves just because Adam happened to have been in a few episodes of Buffy. If I decided to arrive as Skinless Warren to the concert I should be allowed to.. though if I were detailed enough more than one person might be unable to hold their beer.
Doesn't really matter. We're all quite capable of having our own opinions on things. I mean, just because I think chocolate is godly, doesn't mean you have to agree

PS
They do say immitation is the highest form of flattery, you know.
Aireale-I have never seen you on the board before but hi, hello how are you?
Here are my thoughts on this subject. I state these are only my opinions, not facts and I am entitled to my opinions as you are entitled to yours. You don't like them, too bad.
I work at Disneyland. You wanna talk about costumes? How about the little girls who come dressed as their favorite princess or the little boys as their favorite character every damn day of the year? How about the people who come dressed in goth gear or the adults who wear the grown up costumes NOT on Halloween? It's freedom of expression. That's what it is. And don't tell me well Disneyland is a fantasy place, it's expected. It's really not. But it doesn't offend anyone and I don't see why us choosing to dress up on Saturday should offend anyone especially the members of the band.
First off, it is the Halloween show. If Halloween fell on a Saturday then would it be ok with you if we dressed in costume? Would you not be so offended at that?
I get offended when people tell ME how to dress. Personally I am gonna dress however the fuck I want and I don't care who likes it and who doesn't. It's a nightclub, people wear everything from tight skimpy outfits to jeans and t-shirts every damn day of the year. What's to say we can't wear costumes when celebrating Halloween?
Secondly, there is NOTHING wrong with us wanting to dress as Buffy or Sarah's movie characters. But let me tell you I am dressing as Daphne from THE CARTOON NOT the MOVIE. I have never seen the movie but my costume is taken from the cartoon, the original. I could care less if Sarah is in it or what, hell she's not even why I watch Buffy. And why would that be offending anybody? A costume is a costume, who cares who has played the character or worn the same thing?
Lots of us know Adam and Common Ro thru Buffy and lots of us are grateful for that. So why would it offend the boys if we came as our fave Buffy character? Why does it matter? We're dressing up as characters who we admire and whatnot. So there's nothing wrong with it.
I believe you might need to take a step back and realize just how offensive your post sounds to us who feel that dressing up for a Halloween show sounds fun. You say there's nothing with having fun and whatnot but that us dressing up could be offensive to the band because it's not related to their music? I haven't even seen anyone mention that they were going as a Buffy character. Where did you see that? You don't want to dress up, fine, but don't try and impose your views on us cuz we weren't imposing ours on yours.
And you can take that to the bank. I'm done here. I just get so offended when people tell me how I can and can't dress. I don't give a fuck what people think. They don't like it, they can piss off. I'm not dressing to impress them or anyone else, I'm dressing that way cuz that's what I want to wear. And if I wanna go as Daphne, I'm gonna damn well go as Daphne and NOONE is gonna tell me otherwise. Even if it wasn't a Halloween show.

Okay I never met anyone of the band because well I never had the oppertunty yet ( June June June )
But when I read back all those wonderful stories of the people who have met them I think they would not mind if people came to their show in costume
If I where in a band and my fans came in costume I would be amused too , makes it fun and colourful
In the Netherlands Halloween is becoming more and more popular (especially in Amsterdam where I live) but still not in the way American people celebrate it
That’s a shame because I love to dress up and if I in some miracle way was able to attend the show on the 26th I would come ...all dressed up , because it does sound like fun

the great costume debate: if I were going to the show, I would SO be dressing up. And to say the boys would be offended by that just because I wouldn't be dressing up as something specifically related to their music? Well that sounds a bit egotistical and that is not what our guys are like at all. Anyone who has ever met these guys knows they are down-to-earth and sweet and have great senses of humor.. they are laid back. They are the kind of people likely to WELCOME costumes and fun-having at their show. Because that is what their shows are all about.. the music, yes, but also having a good time. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, you don't wanna dress up, don't. But NOTHING gives you or anyone else the right to tell others what they should or shouldn't dress up as. As TB said, it's a friggin nightclub... you think some of the regulars there who don't even know who CR is are going to give a damn about who they are offending by the way they dress? It's a show at a nightclub, and it's about having fun to some really great music.
Costumes or no costumes, a Common Ro show is all about the fun. That should be obvious to anyone who has ever been to one.
Is anyone here getting deja vu back to that thread where people were trying to tell y'all how to dress and act at the Hotel Cafe show?
Cece~ Yeah I think we all are getting that deja vu feeling from the whole Hotel Cafe thing. Probably why we are just fed up with it this time. Good points ya made.
"A lot of the kids who come to see the band hear about it through some 'Buffy' Website or something like that. They come down, and they really like the music, and they stay, they keep coming back. If 'Buffy' is going to bring them there, then I'm all for it."
I can't really see the band having a problem with people dressing up!!!
Personally, I think the whole Scooby Doo thing will look great...be sure to take lots of photos of yourselves to show us poor unfortunates over here in the UK!
And have a Happy Halloween!!!

Since we all know of ONE person who will be wearing jeans and t-shirt... We know who to throw Tootsie Rolls at because said person's being a party pooper! Airale, honey, you might wanna show up in costume now. We all will know who you are...
BTW, last time I checked 14B referred to this as the Halloween show.
Okay.. I think everyone has said their piece on this subject.
I do want to add one last piece - Aireale - please don't misunderstand us - we're happy to have you posting along with us on the board. We are only upset at this thread and the idea of telling people how to dress or how NOT to dress.
As somone (CeCe) said.. Common Ro is about fun. As is this board.
In the future, while it is okay to express an opinion, please keep in mind that no one on this board should be dictating to others how to behave.
We have what seems our own lil community and family in here, let's try to share love rather than animosity.
look out for the devil....I went to a party last night and melted some guy's innards because he grabbed my tail.

uh, hacker...
i can't believe you would request for us to leave this thread alone, but then have one last thing to say... plus, you always post message after message on this forum that has nothing to do with the band at all whatsoever or music or buffy or... .
i think the beautiful ironicism in this is that you are bitching about people telling the fans what to do by basically telling the fans what to do.
Sorry I upset you with my post. Along with my usual posts. And you're right, I'm the first to admit that I stray off topic more often than not. In the future, I won't be insulted if you choose to skip over my posts and ignore me.
