Ok so you asked for it and here it is. As promised a fresh review of last nite's 14 Below show now that my tummy is all full of yummy salad and pizza and Starbucks white mocha... And I warn you guys IT's LONG...I tend to ramble...
Ok so the show was awesome. I agree with Deb, the energy was a bit low but I reckon it's from all the traveling that Eric and Adam have been doing. Ken and Mike were plenty energetic and stuff but Adam and Eric seemed to be a bit tired which is totally understandable. Those boys run themselves ragged. But still the show was rockin and awesome There was plenty of jumping up and down and falling down and whatnot so now that I have said that, here's the review...
The boys didn't show until about 9:45. They played a full show, almost two hours till about 11:30. Eric (dressed in blue collared shirt and blue jacket) opened with Dancer. Adam (dressed in a blue dress shirt, red tie and blue cardigan sweater, one of his famous ones, but no brown (yay! *g*)) joined him on stage and they did Don't Let's Start (which I cheered at), Burgandy (which I also cheered at), Union Dues, Oklahoma (really early on in the set, the acoustic, acapella version with Adam on harmonica) and then when they decided to play Indie Rockin, Mike (in a very spiff looking black suit, Mr. Sharp Dressed man there *g*) and Ken (dressed in a Sailor Suit) joined them on stage. I forget the order of songs but I know they performed More Complex than it Sounds (Soundchecking) after a nice bit of soundchecking (Eric's guitar going out seemed to provide the perfect impetus for it), Savior (which has a nice interlude during the "Smile for the Camera" bit), Sit Down, CR's own rap version of "Cool Like That", Post Modern, DJ, Did A Verse End, First Time (which had a different tone), One Step Up (which will NOT be on the CD-I'm quoting Adam here), Rockstar (which had a different bass line), Offstage Lines (which I really really hope is on the CD ) and I believe they ended with The Crowd and I, singing the bit "and maybe on that judgement day I won't be in the room" coming off stage into the middle of the crowd pulling everyone in close and doing the group singalong to the beautiful ballad "She Is Love". There was some interesting discussion of J. Lo and a misinterpretation of the lyrics from "it's getting warm in here" and discussion about them rapping but still being white (quite funny *g*) and lots of cursing about the sound (I laughed when Adam sang, "turn the fucking mike up!") There were 4 set lists on stage and while we were at the front of the stage I totally forgot to grab one. LOL too busy trying to get some water and air after "She is Love".
So that was the music bit of the show I think. Anyone feel free to add any songs I might have missed. I'm doing this all from memory.
Show highlights: The costumes. Adam did a diatribe on Halloween and three of the band members not celebrating, which he was riffing off of but all the same he loved the costumes. Lots of people kept commenting on Aimercat's Satan look, Adam mentioned who was in the room and listed off a bunch of costumes. He got to us in the front and since we didn't have out Fred (he was in the restaurant) I don't think Adam recognized Hacker and I. Oh well later on he did g And of course Ken came in a spiffy looking Sailor Suit. Scott thanked us for dressing up and said he should have done something special for the costumed people. That was nice So the costumes didn't offend I reckon everyone who was dressed up looked great and I especially loved some of the wings I saw floating around But I will say a turtleneck in 14 Below, not a good idea. I was dying, I dunno how Adam and Eric wear the long sleeves. It just doesn't work. Oh and must have water next time. My throat was killing from the end for all the screaming and singing and whatnot. g Oh and the wigs were so falling off. Apparently Hacker's glasses made her the "Smart one" and the quiet one shockingly, and cuz I had my contacts in, I was the ditz. LOL. Oh and without our Fred, some people did not recognize Daphne and Velma alone. LOL. We so needed a Scooby and Shaggy though. Next time g But I did like being told "you're the fucking scooby gang" after I asked Adam if he recognized us Hehe that was nice. Mike knew who Hacker was right away, g Observant boys we have there
Hacker got to meet Danny. He showed up, I introduced her, she was happy And he smooched me on the cheek so I smooched back. So that's two who I've gotten smooches from So that was a nice little bonus
After the show we were all milling in the parking lot chilling with Mike and Ken and getting Scooby pics with all the band members. Also we had the Buffy Yearbook so Hacker and I had to get my photo (the one of CR I took) signed. I even had Abbie sign the article and Deborah sign her pic since I couldn't very well sign my OWN mag. Haha. Mike apparently doesn't realize that we use silver markers. He was trying to get the pen to work on Hacker's mag and finally he realized that it was silver so he signed her pic, "Mike, DUH!" and we were laughing. It was very funny. Eric didn't wanna sign my mag cuz he said "you have too many autographs." But I had to get it cuz well I am very proud of that pic. So I did He eventually signed it. I also showed everyone the lovely B-day card that my dear gal Tamz had done for me. Much like I had her "Hi Tamz" sign done she made a "Happy Birthday TB" card and got all of Common Ro to sign it back in New York, even Jordan and Rick! Cricket and OzLady also signed it, so thank you gals! So after the show I thanked everyone for signing it (cuz it totally made my day and Tamz, sneaky one she is, kept it such a secret!) and Danny and Derek signed it too g Hehe so that was another nice bonus. I also told Adam how much I loved Offstage Lines and he also hopes it will be on the CD. Poor guy, sick and losing his voice. Still put on a great show though And Briel got a phone call from Eric so I bet that made her nite! Adam knew who Hacker was from her question on the BBC chat which impressed Hacker And this time the Valet guys didn't kick us out of the parking lot. That was nice
I must say it is so good to have them back in California and back in the states. We missed them so much. I cannot wait till the next show. I was disappointed they didn't play Lena though. But I was jazzed they played Burgandy (they owed me after all *g*)
One bad thing was the sound. Eric's guitar went out and Adam was having serious issues with his mike. It always seems to happen at 14 Below and it happened at Hotel Cafe too so that wasn't a good thing but I didn't notice it as much since I was at the front. I hope they can get those things ironed out. Though the sound problems made for a nice segue into More Complex Than It Sounds. g
And now for some Shoutouts (bear with me I am almost finished):
It was great to see Deborah, Abbie, Gypsychick, Bdbdb, and Callistamorgan again I miss those girls. But Briel and Marcella, you better be there next time. It wasn't the same without you
Ixcemala-it was so great to finally meet you! Man I hope I got your name right. LOL had a blast dancing and singing with you. You totally rock girl. Come out more often k?
Angela-You so needed to be Scooby. Your friend Gretchen rocks. Thank you so much for taking our pics! I dunno how you guys do the SD drive like that. I was so ready to crash by the time I made it back to the valley. We have to get together again soon, k?
Deborah-was so good to see you. Sorry your friend crapped out on ya, that sucks. You need Briel back And I hope your pics came out. Mel's afterwards was fun too
Aimercat-hehe you as Satan. Too funny how EVERYONE recognized you! LOL. Oh and I loved the tail. So glad you could make it. Hope you're feeling better
Fresno (Elizabeth)-was great to meet you and your friend finally. Had fun milling in the lot with you afterwards Hope you guys made it home ok, you have to come down more often!
Hacker Groupie and Arky-my partners in crime. I reckon we looked quite awesome as the Scooby Gang I had much fun with you guys. Thanks for making my nite very very awesome. Must do again next show
So yeah that's my review and Shoutouts. I cannot wait for the next show. And next time Ronia, you and Shelly, get your butts out here And Cece, you need to bring Summer You have to come. Stef, you and Melissa have to come too. We Cali peeps have so much fun, eh?
Hope I didn't bore anyone with my long winded review. I mentioned the clothes cuz hey I'm observant. Hehe. And Hacker is rubbing off on me, she's making me rambly. And last nite she was the QUIET one. You guys wouldn't believe it she was so quiet. Haha. I was the noisy one. Wait, I'm always the noisy one. Anyways, that was the show, till next time, this is Daphne signing off g

The call totally made my night. Well that and winning $260 at BlackJack! Isn't gambling wonderful?
I must say that Deborah is my hero! She called me Three times during the Common Rotation show last night and let me listen to the songs through the phone. When she first called, Eric was singing Dancer and I got all misty eyed cuz I so wished I was there! I was sooooo happy to be able to be hearing him sing. Then the next call I heard part of Oklahoma, YAY! and for the Third call it was I think More Complex than it sounds but my phone was dying and I couldn't hear really well so I had to hang up. I called back and left a message on her phone thanking her tons for calling and making my night. It so did! And I didn't even know there was more goodness to come! After the show she called me back and was like hold on there's someone here I think you might want to talk to and I was like Okay thinking it was one of my friends or something and she was like "Eric, Eric" and I was like OMG! LOL So he came on the line and we talked for a bit. I won't go into details, but it was a little confusing at times because it seemed like we were trying to talk at the same time probably because there was a lot of noise on both ends of the phone but it was so great to talk to him. So as I said before that was so Awesome and thanks to Deborah!
TB~ great review. I love it when they come in and gather the crowd around! I can't wait to see pics of your costumes and of course of the show. I am glad that I was missed. LOL And I can't wait until the next show which I most definately hope I can go to. They just need to announce it! HEY GUYS WHEN'S THE NEXT SHOW?! Marcella really needs to go to the next one too!
TB's review was great. The show was a lot of fun and I am glad that I attended.
I was so happy to meet Gypsy Chick in person! She's a doll. And I loved hanging out with Deb, Gretchen, Tb, Arky and Aimercat. They were sweeties.
The show started late, as TB said, but we were all so happy to have CR back in Los Angeles that many people in the audience called out "Welcome back!"
TB's list of songs was good, except that they also played Fortunate... and got all the words correct this time
I am personally a fan of all the Ad Libbing the guys do. When there were difficulties with Eric's guitar (not sure if it was the amp or what..) Adam and Mike did a lot of joking about.. and Adam improvised lyrics about Eric's guitar not working. It was cute.
And I'm not posting this stuff in any certain order, sorry.. just remembering highlights as they come to me.
When Prof Ken came on stage as "Sailor Ken" people cheered. He hammed it up for a while too. Strutting across the back of the stage and grinning out at us and sitting at his drums with his hands in the air as the audience cheered him on.
He was such a cutie last night And he had more energy than I've seen for a long while.
Mike was very un-Buddah like last night. He was goofing off on stage and seriously wild. He was the one who turned the song "It's getting hot in here" to "It's getting hot in her" Yeah. LOL Meanwhile, Eric was making comments about the song and why it made no sense for the girl to be saying "I want to take off all my clothes.."
Even with the sound troubles and equiptment problems, the guys managed to pull off a great show - but really, is that a surprise?
And as TB said - the soundchecking bit was great - because they played it immediately after some real sound problems.
I was glad to have dressed up as Velma - but because I had to look up at the stage all night my wig started slipping and it got rather annoying to me. How many times did Angelic Angela or Aimers have to help me tug down the wig? It was compounded because I couldn't just take it off. In order to stuff my hair under it we had had to braid my hair into lots of little braids and coil them up on my head. So without the wig I would have looked scary.. and even around Halloween time this type of Scary is BAD.
After the show we hung out outside, TB got me water.. which I sipped and then promptly misplaced. Oye. And we chatted up with Mike and Ken for a while. I love Mike, he's sweet and IMHO the most approachable of the bunch (not that any aren't approachable). We got our photos with the guys and chatted it up with other fans. TB was right, I was having an off night and very mellow. I'm never mellow. I think the glasses did it. You know, cause I have to blame something
Meeting Danny Strong was great - he was very sweet. And yes, it was awesome to meet him.
Adam was loosing his voice at the end of the night. I think TB's right and the guys work themselves a bit too hard. It's an easy thing to do when you love your work and I think the boys really love theirs.
Don't know when the next gig will be, Adam himself wasn't sure. And Mike learned about CRAP for the first time. He thought it's name was funny.
The music was great and I felt such pleasure at seeing them again. I'm already impatient for the next time they perform.

TB - Thanks for the review. I SO wish I could have been there! I am going through CR withdrawl again. Atleast I got to exchange "hi's" with Adam through Francie (thanks Francie!) And Adam was sick? Aww I hope he's feeling better.
Tamz - He laughed at the name.. so... you figure it out.
He also wanted to know if it was possible for him to be Buddah without being "Enlightened." I lied to him and said "Sure!" but then, what do I know?
It occurs to me tonight that I love Common Ro not just because they have great songs - but because they have great personalities too. A Common Ro show just wouldn't be the same if they came, sang their songs exactly as written, bowed and left. You know?
They obviously enjoy what they do and it really, really shows.
A looot of smilies ^_^ , thanks for that detailed review

2 or 3 cents
October 28 2002, 7:10 PM
I actaully had a lot I wanted to say but it has already been said. Either that or I have forgotten what it was. Could go either way since I'm still at work. And it's been slow today. I know you all understand how bad that can be.
But I digress. On to the how good the show was--
I knew ahead of time that the guys were pretty much all sick so I was expecting them not to be as good as the other times I've seen them. I was wrong. They sounded great and though lower energy then usual (I know its been said before) they were still highly energized. They made me tired just watching them.
Have to say that Ken looked so great in his sailor suit. Really made me (who was one of the few dressed up) feel like I fit in. I was a little concerned for a while when my friend and I were the only ones dressed up. But then others came and it was great. And considering my friend and I drove 3 hours down and 3 hours home, there was no way we weren' gonna be dressed up. Wish I worn my wings, tho. Next time.
Great to see some people. Deb- we should talk more. Do you have my email? TB- next time I come down we need to get together. Amiercat- (hope I spelled that right) great talking to you. Sorry about the sinus headache. I hate those. Oddly, mine go away when I get to LA but I constantly have one at home.
Missed others. You know who you are AHEM *COUGH* Marcella COUGH *COUGH*.
Had so much fun introducing my friend, Charise, to the band. Se knows most of the songs by heart but it was her very first show. Gwen- I think you might have some competition with her for Adam's number 1 fan. She has an obsession. It's so cute!
Got new pics with each of the guys. Mike was so sweet. He talked with us forever. Don't think I've ever talked to him that long. And Adam was a doll. As usual. Felt so bad, he was soo sick.
I think that covers most of what I wanted to say. Hope I didn't let my fingers wander too much. OH! my pics are done and should be up in a few days for anyone that wants see them. I'll post the web addy then.
Oh and will someone please remind me that I do not like having to drive home after a show. We got home at 4:45 (not adjusted for daylight savings). Luckily we live at the same place. Next time, I have got to crash somewhere. Who volunteers to remind me? Any takers? I'll buy you a special treat.

Re: Common Ro at 14 Below Show Review...
October 29 2002, 12:13 AM
Hmm... that sounds like it was so much fun. I want to go to one of their shows so bad... They sound awfully nice, but I wouldn't be able to talk to them... I'd stutter or throw up or start crying.
Plus Danny strong being there!! Ugh!!
TB- Thanks for the review... it made me all sad though, because I want to go so bad... and I never will.
You don't know how jealous I am but I'm happy all you guys had fun.
Oh yeah...if you have an LJ, join my Common Ro community. http://www.livejournal.com/users/commonrotation/
...if you're not already joined... I know that TB, Hacker Groupie, and Cece are there already.
...and don't get mad at me for having Buffy in the interests... I've seen people at this board get mad at others for associating Common Rotation with Buffy... I'm scared of you people.
If you're ever in the LA area and able to get to the show - let me know and you can go with friends. In NY I'm certain Tamz or someone would be happy to buddy with ya. Despite the occasional bickering (like your siggy said) the peeps here at the forum are an awesome bunch and I've seen a lot of support here too.
And who cares if you stutter or throw-up (unless it's ON someone) really? I don't know the guys all that well, but I'd be totally happy to introduce ya. Heck, I'm happy to introduce you to people I haven't ever met too... given the chance. "Hello Mr. Bryan Adams.. this here is Freaky..." Wait, that was freaky.
smiles for the camera
I'm sappy but I honestly think that strangers are friends you've not yet met.
Ask anyone here who's met the boys - they are way cool and not at all frightening. Laid back and easy to chat up.
Hey I joined the community too! What about me?! pout LOL
Anyways I agree with HG. There are a lot of cool people here. And I for one would care if you threw up but stuttering is okay. LOL Everyone gets nervous around people they admire or aren't comfortable around yet. But they guys are so cool and easy to talk to and there would be friends around so no need to get nervous. And about the crying...well the music can be powerful but I doubt you'll cry if you came. :D
ya got the spelling wrong, but no biggie....headache cured with sinus drugs but too late for me to really party as in the next night! grrr argh! Welcome to the fall allergy season.

Thanks everyone for the reviews. Though some of us may not have gotten to be there for some reason or another (looking specifically at Briel and me) we got to live it through all of your reviews.
Adam- take some meds; curl up in bed all nice and warm; go to sleep; and get better!!!!!!! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my review was met with such love. I was getting really worried there after the nastiness that has been this forum the past few weeks. But this is all good, feel the love.
Briel and Marcella-you were so very missed and you BETTER be there next time. YOU have NO EXCUSE! g
Briel-you won 260 bucks? Jealous here! Hehe go you! And yes I was standing there with Eric when Deborah said "Eric someone wants to say hi to you" and then I went back to Adam and my Scoobies. I'm glad you had fun in Tahoe. We missed you.
Hacker Groupie-thanks for a helluva fun weekend. You and Arky rule. Fresh Choice was yum, Starbucks was good (who woulda thought I'd like coffee? *g*) and I loved being your Daphne. We have to go Thurs. That should be much fun
Fresno-I'm sure you could stay with Hacker It may get a bit cramped but slumber parties are fun! Hehe or you could stay with me in Irvine. I would hate to have to do that 3 hour drive. I have no idea how you Nor Cal and SD fans do those long drives. I'm tired just driving the hour from Irvine to LA. It was great to meet you and Charise though. And hehe you mentioned both my handle and my real name in that post g I have competiton for my Adam obsession? Haha I already get that from Stef and CommonRoBaby. But everyone knows he's all MINE g I loved Charise's wings Hehe next time I'll wear mine. I can be a winged Daphne. Haha.
Oh and guys as I forgot to mention in my review, yes they played Fortunate with the actual lyrics this time. That was shocking! (said in true Aussie fashion) g
Tamz-not yet girl. I will. And hehe yes you are a sneaky little devil! You knew about your sign, me, that card was such a surprise! Made my nite though girlie And then I had to have Danny sign it too g Thanks again so much, you're too cute for words hun!
Stef-I wish you and Melissa coulda come too It was great seeing Francie again. I run into her sis all the time at the park! And you're welcome hun. Now I have to make one for my LJ
Xanne-you're welcome darlin Mine will be up soon. I am gonna work on all my CR pics (I have a backlog of them) and get links going so people can share in the goodness of the last 9 months of CR
Deborah-holding the book open does not constitute studying g And great pics hun! You coming Thurs?
freakinname-hehe hun don't fret so much. I would take special care to introduce you (ask Hacker, I was good with her meeting Danny) and I'm sure you'd be fine. And hun you can stay with me anytime sweetie I'm glad ya liked the review And have faith, we'll get you to a show one day
Cece-it's a possibility And hehe I need to know when signups are! And when you're coming in, DS and I are planning a Troika Breakkie on that Friday, we need to work all this good stuff out I can't wait to see you guys!
So I suppose I should go work on my pics. I didn't take nearly as many as I usually do. And I agree with Hacker, the wigs were evil. All that looking up (cuz we were at the stage literally underneath Adam *g*) and they kept slipping back. I have no idea how many times I pulled my wig forward. Stupid thing. Oh and a turtleneck in 14Below? Never again. NEVER again.

You people have no clue as to how lucky you all are!! I sooo need to move to Califonia! I currently live in the toilet that is Northern Ireland and would literally KILL to be living that close to the guys! You all sound like you had a total blast!
However when I met Adam last month at a buffy convention, since he was the only C-Ro member I knew, I almost hyperventalated and had to sit down. I cant remember the last time i was that nervous! I wasnt even as nervous when i did my driving test! During the photo shoot, I tripped over the backdrop the photographer had on the floor, and Adam had to grab my hand to stop me from falling! At the autograph signing, he remembered me and he said, and i quote "You're all kind of hot and shit, in your outfit, you need to relax, come on, gimme a hug" I could have died right there and then. My inner monologue was like "OMG Adam Busch is hugging me, ADAM BUSCH IS HUGGING ME!!!" One of my most treasured memories. I know he is totally cool and very approachable but I was starstruck in a big way. Eric was slightly insane and overly hyper for some reason, is he always like that?
Like TB said, the nastiness of the "Anti-Buffy" posts recently and all the other bullshit related to it was SCARY!! This makes up for all of that and you can indeed FEEL THE LOVE! This is what I expected to read when I first joined this forum.
Would someone please tell me when the guys coming back to the UK? Cause this is killing me reading about the fun you guys had! When Eric and Adam were in Belfast I told Adam that I hope i get to see them live again before I die!
Im in my university computer suite with Saviour stuck in my head and desperately fighting the erge to sing. Since almost NOONE in Belfast has even heard of Common Rotation (their TOTAL loss!!) singing really isnt recommended!
Well people, I really must be going. I have a sociolinguistics assignment to be in nxt thursday and I havent even started it!
I'm glad you got a hug from Adam out of the deal. He's a neat guy.
Eric hyper? Nah! Actually, that's one of the things I love about him. He's wild.
Hmm... I know, you move to Los Angeles and I will move to Ireland. ahh... if only I had the money.

West Hollywood, right?
October 30 2002, 1:28 PM
It's funny - I had three different friends, representing different entourages of friends, call yesterday to see if I wanted to meet them in West Hollywood for Halloween. laugh My question is, what else would I do, if all my friends are gonna be there? Maybe I'll even see KISS again this year. Oooooh, and be grabbed at by MORE perverts dressed up as rednecks. That'd be peachy!
But, yeah, there's where I'll be.

TB and Hacker Groupie- Thanks.

aimercat- oops! sorry, hon! feeling better?
TB- I just might take you up on the offer. Anything would be better then driving 3 hours down and 3 hours back just to see a show (not saying I won't keep coming down tho) don't you think you should ask Hackergroupie before you offer her place though?
question- now, when Ken was parading around showing off his adorable sailor suit, anyone else see him steal someone's drink? I swear he stole a beer. But I have no photographic evidence.
completely OT-- can someone who has or uses a digital camera email me. I have some questions.
Oh, well. Guess I should go back to actually DOING my job instead of pretending to do it. Did anyone see where I put that file?

I swear he picked it up at the FRONT of the stage and then took a swig when he sat back down. Could have been water, since he was drinking that all night. But I swear that I remember him with a beer. Oh, well. Probably just my wacky had playing tricks on me. Remember, I had a really long drive down and there were some very crazy guys on the road saturday night. Miss those Seabring (or however it's spelled) boys already. Must remember to sleep soon.

aimercat- cool. do NOT come north. We are so bad right now. I'm living every day on a diet of sinus & allergy pills. I hate the fall.
TB, I will have a better idea in January once classes start and I figure out which ones I can miss... it will either be thursday or friday and if it's friday it'll be like 3am Friday morning...
MissTrailorTrash-that's quite a story hun He is such a sweetie. That's how I felt when he told me I was his friend and also when I got my "pity smooch" and now it's just like second nature to hug him. I swear Adam must get so tired of how much I hug him I must get like 10 hugs a show. I never wanna let go g I'm sure they'll come back to the UK sometime hun. And I'm glad you had a good time, Adam and Eric are lovely but you need to meet Mike and Ken too and Rick as well. They're all great Come stateside sometime
CommonRoBaby-just say the word and the code is yours
Freaky-no prob girlie
Fresno-Haha I'm sure Hacker won't mind, she wanted a slumber party Sat. nite! And just let me know hun and the offer totally stands for both you and Charise And I have no clue about Ken's drink, that's too funny you noticed that.
Cece-sounds good, I'm sure we can work something out Friday morning would be ok, DS and I are working on a Troika breakkie, something I have no idea on how to go about putting together.

TB- I just sent out my first payment to LJ the other day so I should be getting my own code soon.... Thanks for the offer though! You're such a sweetie! BTW- I'll be joining ABC once I figure out what I all want and stuff. That is, if you'll let me.
Fellow allergy sufferers- I know what what you guys are going through. Normally, about this time of year, I'm stuffed up, coughing, weezing, hacking, hayfever, incoherent, falling asleep in class, and everything, but I found that the best medicine is working third shift. It sounds odd, but it works by goodness! So I send you all cyber kleenexes, and hope you feel better.
CommonRoBaby-LJ is free unless you want extra features. Why did you pay for it first? I can give you a code which starts a free LJ and then later you can pay for it if you want to And of course you can join ABC once I start adding members again. Need to get back in the swing of things. I know Hacker's been bugging me. g
And hehe I take my claritin, it works. Third Shift? Youch, how does that help allergies?!
