Hi everybody. I was just wondering if any of the really old school Common Ro or 28 Orange Street fans are still on the board. If so, do you have any fun stories or tales to tell? I've seen a story here and there since I came to the forum, but I know there have got to be more of y'all out there!
Come on, please???!!!
I think I qualify as old school, I go back 2 years to when they were 28OS, even though I know there's fans that go further back than I do. I can only think of one story that's fairly dorky, but Vixen can beat me at that any day! =Þ
So they were playing back at the Beanery (this is Summer 2000, so the exact details are a little fuzzy), and my friend Linda had introduced me to them so we were going every Sunday. I told my friend Kelly that I thought she'd like them too and that I wanted her to come with me to see them. So she came one time and liked them, and asked me to make a copy of my cd for her. She was debating whether or not to buy her own copy, and decided not to. So we went another Sunday to see them again, and after they were done performing for the night, I went to say good night to Adam and Eric and I gave Adam a hug. I introduced Kelly and he said something to her like "well you have cool taste in friends". IWe were chatting and I told Adam that the band should look into playing at Stony Brook and he was like "Yeah, see if you can find out info for us and talk to Matt" (or something) and then we said good night. So then Kelly and I walk out, go around the corner to the parking lot and we hear "Hey!" from behind us. We turn around and lo it's Adam! And we're like "umm...hi!" And he said something more about looking into trying to book shows at my school (I wish I remembered better detail than that) and we were like "sure, cool!" and said goodnight again. Kelly and I turned around again to the car, looked like each other like "what the hell was that?" and I said "that was the coolest thing ever!" and she goes "now I HAVE to buy the cd!"
The end! curtsey

Sara - Fun story. Cool that he sought you out too.
Did they play every Sunday or did I misread your post? I drool at the idea of seeing them rock out every week. How cool is that?!
And it's a good thing she bought the cd. Everyone should buy it.
Any more stories out there?

Hacker....EVERY LOVIN' SUNDAY! For a whole summer! Well, I started seeing them in June so I don't know how long that gig had been going on before I got there, LOL. But yup, every Sunday, it was faboo.
That's like my sis Re who goes and watches her friend's band Gutter Poets nearly every Fri and Sat night perform.
I'd love it if CoRo would have more frequent shows. I've got blue eyes - but maybe they should be green.
hehehe... QoDS... gotta love it. And Vixen.

No Doubt!?!
November 4 2002, 11:26 AM
I remember one time (not sure on the date, but i'd say 2-3 years ago) when the guys were "being chased" by another famous band. I forgot the reasoning for the whole charade, some elaborate scheme they thought up. They went around from show to show, afraid of being caught by their chasers. They whole thing lasted for quite sometime actually. It climaxed with them running out of the beanery, ducking into a van, skreeching around the corner, and then, suddenly, when no one in the coffeeshop knew what the hell was going on, Common Rotation came out from around the corner, dressed up as No Doubt, the band supposedly chasing them for some reason. They were all dressed to a T. After playing a few numbers, they ran back out into the van, skreeched around the corner once more, and then in modest heroism, our folk friends retook teh stage, finishing their trumphant set. Alright, well, got to get back to work.
peace and love,
naggz

Tricia (and maybe naggz), please tell me we're not the only ones who made it to the Right Track Inn sunday afternoon shows... I'm starting to feel old.

Well Bo...

I think that may be the case unfortunately. But you know what, that's ok. I always wondered where they got their name from though (the Right Track Inn that is). It's pretty different to say the least.

You guys aren't the only ones. There were some of us Merrick Colemanites hanging out at the Right Track Inn...back in the days when "Cartoon" was a 28 Orange Street favorite.

Bo Vos- RTI! I think I went to every, single Sunday show they did at the Right Track. For everyone else, the Right Track Inn was a bar that would have teen Sunday shows that would start at 1:00 in the afternoon and end at 10:00. When 28 Orange Street started, they were at the 1:30 time slot, after much practice, hard work, and paying dues they eventually got the prime "after dark" hours. One time, during a very psychedelic jam, this woman (someone's mom?) started doing thai chi (or one of those spiritual martial arts) on stage. It was beautiful how the body and music were completely one being (This memory might have been sweetened due to the red eye syndrome I was experiencing at the time!) Wacky times, many horrible bands, Eric playing electric, and I almost ran over Phil Tufone once.
Naggz- Easy, "Get Away" Boy!! It was a lot funnier when you're not speeding down Broadway.
I'm old skool, like my Pumas!

Baltimore
November 6 2002, 9:09 AM
Tricia,
The only time I was ever really skreeching down the road with the band was when we went to Baltimore to play at the Vault for a Buffy Fest this past summer. I was driving Veronica's Infinite with her, bopper, and mekayla (sorry if I spelled it wrong), following Matt to the show. Now I know how to get to Baltimore from NY, but after we get to baltimore was the big question. We were simply following Matt, which was fine and dandy, until we stopped at a rest stop. Everyone got out to pee. Everyone in Matt's van was done while my car was half full, missing justin and mekayla. Matt zoomed off, not knowing that we weren't following. We were sitting in the rest stop wondering "Hey, where did Matt go?" Veronica calls him, he says, "aren't you in the white toyota behind me?" So I end up flying down I-95 at around 100 trying to catch up with matt. everyone buckled up and held on to their shit. We finally caught up to matt 50 miles later. That was speedy naggz, not back at the beanery. The only thing that sucked about the whole thing at the beanery was that I didn't actually get to see them perform, only hear them. I had to stay in the van with it running so they could jump in and I could drive them back around the corner. Alright, well that's my speedy naggz story. Any of the ones in the car can confirm it.

T-Day
November 7 2002, 4:34 PM
hey everyone, remember, Saturday November 30th is Naggz's Nook's post-Turkey-Day non-turkey-left-over party. Quite possibly the longest title in Naggz's party catalogue. Come one, come all. If you know where I live, then great. If not, then you'll have to find out. Should start around 2-3 pm, and go all night. I figure I'll get a keg, maybe two. drop me some head counts so i can get an idea of how many peeps will be at my crib. if you don't have a leftover or some form of alcohol, YOU WON'T BE ALLOWED IN!! no exceptions. Alright, can't wait, just a few weeks away!! yea!! I'd invite the boys down, but i don't think they'll be on the island, but if they are, they are of course more than welcome.
peace and love,
naggz
oh yeah and bo, you better show, or else you'll get a major ass kicking. you still have to give your seal of approval for jamie (not that i'll ditch her if you say nay, but still).
